For more on NBS, see Part 3. Both chains would run independently. On February 29, 1931 KEX became an affiliate of UBC, as well as NBS. KXL continued to be an affiliate, to a lesser degree. On April 1, 1931 The United Broadcasting Co. suspended operations. On April 8, 1931 L.L. Davis, Chairman of UBC's Board of Directors, announced that UBC would resume within a week, with possibly more affiliates.... The Depression was definitely here at this point.
