Baker's Dozen, July 1, 1965 by Doug Baker.

Fireworks, Other Pyrotechnics

KISN radio will lead the new Pulse ratings with KRDR (country music) just shading KEX to run second in somewhat of a surprising commentary on listening habits. KOIN will show fourth...

Baker's Dozen, October 7, 1965 by Doug Baker.

A Bakers Day Old Bread

The upcoming issue of Billboard will raise a few eyebrows in the radio industry. In it's "radio response ratings", it gives KISN a "100 per cent" rating in pop singles and KEX the lead (59 per cent) in LP's, a top rating for rhythm and blues to KLIQ and the leadership in classical to KXL-AM.

The ratings for individual deejays will fluster a few egos. KISN's Frank Benny gets a 43 and KEX's Ric Thomas leads Barney Keep with a 28 to 25 per cent rating. Bob McAnulty and Jim Stovall of KPAM-FM share honors in the jazz field with identical response ratings and Sammy Taylor at KWJJ leads all the country music jockeys with a whopping 81 per cent...

Bob McAnulty does not get many mentions on this site. He was in my opinion one of the top 10 all time jocks to work the mic in this town. Also...I remember one book (pulse) that had Michael O'brien with a 1/3 share in portland.

Incredible, how large an audience these guys had back then. Some due to fewer stations on the dial -- but a lot due to pure talent.

Dick Sainte is living on the Ore coast...Dick has been quite ill....Jim Meeker (last I heard) was in the Southern Calif area.
Someone mentioned they heard that Don Kennedy passed away....Can anyone confirm that?

Eugene rating mention: December 28, 1965 "Behind The Mike" column reports "Glen M. Stadler, President of KEED, KEED-FM, KGAL & KGAY. KEED (1050kc.) Springfield-Eugene with a Top 40 format has been No.1 in Pulse for many years, while KEED-FM (93.1mc.) with Classical & stereo has relatively few listeners."

That's amazing, given KEED AM was a daytimer on 1050.

KASH 1600 became a strong Top 40 contender by the mid-60s, but I don't know the exact timeline. My radio memory only goes back to the summer of '66. KEED was 24 hrs on 1450 by then.

Lanny Wynia (Don Kennedy) passed away around 1991 or 1992. Don ran the programming at KASH in the early '70s and did a killer job. Also did mornings at KMPS in Seattle before Phil Harper took over.

There was a Don Kennedy at KISN in the mid '60s, about the same time as the game show host of the same name.
