95 year old Glenna Vere Kneeland, best known as Kay West, is the lead story in the newspaper magazine "Lifestyles Northwest" this month. Mrs. Kneeland began her broadcast career in 1929 on KXL. Then moving to KTBR (later known as KALE & KPOJ). Then on to KOIN and for most, remembered as Kay West on KEX from 1945 to 1955. Her first name came from the Kay in K-E-X and West from Westinghouse, owner of KEX in the 1940's & 50's. She did many kinds of programs on these stations including news & celebrity interviews on KEX. Listed were: Harry Truman, Eleanor Roosevelt, Louis Armstrong, Burl Ives, Lawrence Welk, Mary Pickford, Sophie Tucker & Lowell Thomas.

This interesting interview by Courtney Dunham appears in the June "Lifestyles Northwest" free monthly. Wonderful inset picture of Louis Armstrong who appears with Kay West on the cover & two KEX microphones. Six pictures with the article, all courtesy of KEX. Question, Who is the man in the background with Mr. Armstrong & Mrs. West? He's at the second mic. Was he the Newsman? Find a copy at:
