Not only are they playing the same music, but a lot of times they are playing the same songs at the exact same time. Last night they were playing "love Lockdown By Kanye West around midnight on Z100, i then flip over to Jammin and it's "Love Lockdown" By Kanye west.

Are these two stations going to differentiate from each other because they are very similar right now. It sounds like they are competeing against each other because the formats are so similar!

Perhaps Z100 will become KEX-FM.

There's an article on Radio & Records about Clear Channel starting to centralize their programming under the "Premium Choice" initiative, including program log offerings. That would be strange if they do that to two stations in the same market.

If it's gotten to the point that you can't tell the difference between Z and Jammin', perhaps they intend to change one of them and Jammin' seems most likely. The way you describe it, it doesn't sound that much different than the situation between K-Hits and Kool.

One station is gonna go, either Z100 or jammin. Justin is right, they do sound similar. Infact im hearing more rap on Z100 lately, which wouldn't make sense if they were keeping both stations.

I still think that they will slowly move in their own directions.

I just talked to one of my relatives who will soon turn 16. I hesitate to divulge her relationship to me. Let's just say I feel very old. :-) I asked her flat out if Z100 and Jammin' sounded the same and the answer was a resounding "NO"! She said Jammin' played hip-hop and Z100 played hip-hop and rock. She also talked about some specialty programming but that was it! This confirms what I thought all along.

No matter what age, you can listen to both stations, and hear the difference.

Semoochie, you know a 16 year old that actually listens to the radio? Wow!

Stevethedj, I doubt they are simocasting, but they could possibly be simulcasting. ;)

Yes there is a few specialty programs on Jammin during the weekend, but other than that, the music is very similar.

For one, Cheap Channel is doing a very poor job keeping up with the new music. Infact I hear a lot of the new Hip Hop On Z100 first.
If you look at the new Hip Hop On Jammin(while there is not a lot)
Z100 is playing 99% of it.

They don't feature any of the big hits that were big on Jammin when they first came to town, instead they play songs that were huge on z100.

Their is slight differences between the station, like a nickelback song thrown in the mix on Z100 but AGAIN, all the new hip hop that Jammin is playing, Z100 is also playing.
Very similar formats between Z100 and Jammin!
