...by inventing a new euphemism for "less live and local, more syndicated". It's called "Premium Choice" Read all about it here: http://www.rbr.com/radio/14032.html CC DID emphasize it is going to increase its commitment to local PA programming. Can't wait to see how THAT's done with a hub-and-spoke system.

Pardon me if I read that news release as just lip service. Frankly, it's too late to save radio, and that is certainly too little, too late.

It's never too late to improve a product, although earlier is better than later.

.... local PA programming....... "in it's commitment to providing local service a spokesman for Clear Channel said that plans are in the works to have employees who have been displaced by syndicated programming stand in parking lots at their market clusters and "broadcast" local content via a bullhorn. A company spokesman said, "Clear Channel remains commited to providing a live, local product for our listeners. We will be testing this exciting new concept in selected markets, and believe that the combination of national programming over the airwaves, and a live outdoor public address announcer, serving those interested in local coverage will offer something for everyone."

The thing that gets me is that CC corporate also says it's using a “proprietary talent performance tool” to “rigorously evaluate all the programming at every station across every daypart”. What? So now the future of a radio talent is decided by a few calculations? Pathetic.
