I just saw that AM970 has an all new web site with a new lineup. Dennis Miller is gone. So is the Mike O'Meara Show. It's now Stephanie Miller, Michael Smerconish, Todd Schnitt, Jason Lewis, Rusty Humphries and Phil Hendrie.

I used to have AM970 as my home page but now will move it to KUFO. At least they kept Hendrie.

Not much of interest there. I'll miss Mike O'Meara. Wonder if any other station will pick him up. Actually had been enjoying Rick's show repeated at mid-day since I don't get up before 8 a.m.

I am very disappointed that this has become a largely political station. I'm listening today to see what they have to offer, and I do appreciate the "mix" of (1) liberal and (4) conservatives.

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything on this station for me at this point. It is not a matter of political leaning, I just have not been entertained yet.

Too bad Dennis Miller is gone

He was pretty funny

Stephanie Miller's only joke was "Bush is dumb"

So they brought back Stephanie Miller? Got rid of Dennis Miller. Does anyone think that anyone will listen to this lineup? The only think they have going is Phil Hendrie and John And Jeff. They really need to change call letters. there is not much comedy left at KCMD. I really agree R.I.P. 970 Anyone have a guess how long before it flips?

970 had lots of dead air yesterday. Does anyone even monitor the station? Miller was good.

I find Stephanie Miller constantly interesting and entertaining, with an unusual ability to combine real information and schtick, and to actually be tolerable in the early morning, although she can be occasionally juvenile in her humor. Dennis Miller was nothing more than a dime-a-dozen righty. I feel that if it was trendy to be left of center on the radio he would have become that overnight just for ratings sake

Dennis Miller didn't become a "rightie" so that he could be trendy on the radio.

I agree with Notalent - Dennis miller became a rightie because 9/11 scared the sh*t out of him. He is an original talent and funny, he just went down a well beaten path.

He is funnier as a right winger. I see him on Bill O'Reilly. BOR is no right winger, and he critises Ann Coulter every chance he gets and won't have Rush on to defend the controversies he has been in.

WOW, what a dull line up of nobodies. So hard to even spend time to give them a chance at being interesting. Between Stephanie and Phil is a bland, horrible, mess of useless airtime. Bye, bye 970.

Thye've made a mistake not continuing to rebroadcast Emerson in middays. My guess is that a sizeable chunk of his loyal fan base isn't up at the buttcrack of dawn to listen to him.

The only positive aspect of this change is than now Phil Hendrie's entire show is being carried live. However, with Rick Emerson and Tom Leykis gone, I can't imagine that the station's ratings will improve. I suspect that the format wheel will be spinning soon.

I suspect it doesn't matter. 970 is actually in a better position than most because they're located inside an antenna farm. Most AM stations are faced with the reality of the property being worth more to sell than they can possibly earn!

They got rid of Mike O'Meara for unknown political garbage? Good way to bring an overall 0.7 down to 0.0. Granted, changes were needed with the demise of The Tom Leykis Show and Rick Emerson moving to KUFO, but what they have now is just the same old crap all the other talk stations are doing. I wasn't up early enough to hear Stephanie Miller today, but every show I tuned in between her and Phil Hendrie was talking about the same thing (Obama's press conderence.) Every damn show! Why couldn't 970 at least carry Mike O'Meara live? Why the sudden switch from personality driven shows to the same old tired political talk? Liberal, conservative, or middle of the road - it's all BORING!

I'm happy for Rick, Tim, Sarah, and Ritchie. But their move along with this new line up is the "nail in the coffin" for The Talker. Maybe the aforementioned idea of KUFO-AM will pan out after all. Or the next reincarnation of KUPL-AM.

Is lifestyle-oriented talk really that dead as a format, that running generally obscure political shows is a better option? This is a serious question, not a rhetorical one.

Rsb569.....I couldn't agree with you more. All political talk is booooring with its "My guys can do no wrong, the other guys can do no right" philosophy. I'd love to have Mike O'Meara back (although the show has suffered some without Don) and perhaps bring back Don Imus to the Portland market....I listen to those shows.

I don't know that lifestyle-oriented talk has ever been a viable option for AM. Are there any success stories, past or present?

The only thing close to a success story that I can think of was Hot Talk 1080. Of course, Emerson and Leykis were on that station. I may be a little loose with the definition of "lifestyle-talk" for some of the people on this board (they would think of lifestyle-talk more as Dr. Joy Browne, Talknet, and Lee Mirabal).

The way the term was used, I thought we were going for more of a "shock talk" such as Stern or Leykis.

Perhaps entertainment-driven talk? The Don and Mike Show was a great example. But I noticed that the latest incarnation of The Phil Hendrie Show is very politcal too. He still does the character voices from time to time, but there is alot more real interviews and political spouting.
I agree with you, Alfredo_t. Hot Talk 1080 KOTK was about the closest thing to a local success story, although I didn't care much for Susan Powter or the paranomral guy that came on after Leykis before Hendrie was added.

Oh, Clyde Lewis. Yes. I agree with that as well. wow, talknet. Bruce Williams. What memories that brings up. I really think that If I was in radio myself, he would be like my radio father, not that Tom is not a good father. It is still nice to listen to Bruce's radio show. What a all around pleasant gentleman. And I guess I really picked a good username for this Message Board! Long live Bruce, Tom, and of course, Rick Emerson!

Yes, thank you Stevethedj. I felt that "Sightings with Jeff Rence" would have been a suitable overnight show, but not 7-10pm on the heels of Leykis. Even though Leykis and Hendrie don't like each other, it was a good line-up once Hendrie replaced "Sightings."

If they had put Jeff Rense on the overnights, he would have been up against Art Bell. I think that would have been a losing bet, given how popular Art Bell was amongst UFO and paranormal fans back then.

Clyde actually had better ratings than Rense and so that is why he was taken from the Portland Market.

I heard a few minutes of Schnitt on Sunday in the shower (I don't really care for Prairie Home Companion)... typical right-wing fearmongering. He couldn't understand why we didn't blow up N. Korea's rocket on the launchpad.
