The new KQSO. With 1000 milliwatts at 102.9 near Bald Peak.
On a clear day you just might be able to hear this little LPFM. Thanks to the Western Oregon Radio Club.

http://www.qsl.net/worc/HotNews.html

Radio-Locator has them at 96.3, although I picked them up at River Road and Farmington over the weekend at 102.9.

Some discussion on the "Towers and Much" thread:

Hi All,

RE: KQSO-LP

We're (the Western Oregon Radio Club - WORC) running 1 watt CP ERP out of a Shivley antenna from Chehalem. Our main club website is down. So, that may explain why emails are not being returned. Sorry about that. Feel free to contact me if you like for more questions:

radio.engineer@comcast.net

You may also have heard KQRZ on the air at 101.5 in Hillsboro on a temp tower. They are located at the Heritage Christian School near River Road. We both received STA's from the FCC for operating on a second adjacency...it's been a long and painful process taking years for this.

WORC is trying to get moving on promoting kids and people into the Amateur Radio hobby. 1 watt isnt much, but, it's a start. We're looking for STL equipment and other equipment if anyone has leads let me know! Thanks...73's

Ken

Have you heard 101.5 yet?

I have found that reception of both KQRZ-LP and KQSO-LP is not that good in the car. I then noticed that both of these stations are licensed to radiate horizontally polarized signals only. My car has a vertical whip antenna (mystery solved!). On a horizontally-polarized rooftop antenna, reception is solid.

I visited the Heritage Christian School today, and I caught a glimpse of the KQRZ antenna. It is a single-bay circularly polarized antenna that looks like this: http://i24.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/28/20/32e4_1.JPG

The antenna is mounted on a mast, just above roof level. Is KQRZ running at full power?

The other thread that mentioned KQRZ said that the current location of the KQRZ antenna is temporary. When is the antenna moving to its permanent location, and will that just be a taller tower on the roof of the Heritage Christian School building, or will it be a different location?

Hi, Although we (The WORC) are not associated with KQRZ, I do know they are running at full licensed power (at a lower RAD center) and are attempting to keep the Tx site at the school. This is pending acquiring funding to mount a permanent structure on the roof. So, the set up they have now is really what is temporary.

BTW, The main engineer in charge at the school is also a ham. Thus, the associated "Q" call sign they acquired too (just after the WORC applied for QSO). We were both mutually exclusive applicants for 96.3 and we were both granted STA’s from the FCC to use different second adjacent channels.

There's a full Class C in Seattle and a C0 in Corvallis. It would be difficult to get another full signal between them.

I'm so glad I've found this station! Too bad it only works in my car!!

What I'd like to know is how often the broadcast that went on this week changes, and what time the eerie show about Stephanie and the house she grew up in usually plays! I keep getting bits and pieces of that one - I want to hear the whole thing!

I think that you just have to keep listening, and eventually, you'll hear the show about Stephanie. This programming is just supposed to be a "placeholder." What kind of programming is the station planning on running, and when will it start? What stands in the way of the real format debuting (construction of studios, perhaps)?

Have you heard the Outer Limits "Galaxy Being" episode on 102.9 yet? That's the show where the stupid DJ turns the transmitter power up way too high (he must not have had his First Class) and light waves an alien to earth. Good radio in that episode! Supercar should also be playing once in a while too.....maybe I am the only one to remember those shows on KPTV...lol

Program about Stephanie...

If they follow the pattern, the show should air at 10:15 AM and likely again at 6:15 PM... it seems to follow a 15 minute program of Abbott & Costello, which is playing right now!

It just started at 10:12AM ... A & C is not a full 15 min!

"Have you heard the Outer Limits "Galaxy Being" episode on 102.9 yet?"
yes, heard most of it today by accident. My wife and I were driving home from a day in Salem today. We took the old (99W) highway back through McMinnville. At McMinnville, we could hear a battle between KQSO and KIPK. Yes, that 2 watt KIPK gets into McMinnville, and still some in Newberg. West of Newberg in the hills, we lost both stations. KQSO did come back with the strongest signal north of Sherwood. Going over Cooper Mountain we lost KQSO to KNBQ.

Hmmm I wonder if the KPIK watt meter is broken......They are using some audio processing too I believe. KQSO doesn't....trying to be more "true to the music".

Thanks for the drive test report Radionut and thanks Craig for the Galaxy being link.

For fun, I might as well post a link for the Supercar theme:
