Actually, if he had just used a capital "W" in the word will, that would have been the first complete, correctly spelled, and puncuated sentence he has ever typed. Hey Hustla, you taking night classes at Clark?

"Actually, if he had just used a capital "W" in the word will, that would have been the first complete, correctly spelled, and puncuated sentence he has ever typed." No, it would not. You need to capitalize Portland and spell it correctly, also, in order for it to be correct!

Technically, you also should capitalize the "U" in urban, and "AC".

What is wrong with R&B music. All you guys are critizing URBAN AC = HIP-HOP music. URBAN AC does not equal Hip-Hop music. URBAN-AC format consists of Jeffery Osbourne, Alicia Keys, Fantasia, Boyz II Men, Robin Thickle, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Earth Wind & Fire, etc.

E dawg and hustla: Most of us are aware of the formt boundaries of Urban AC, Urban Contemp., Churban, etc. That has never been the point of our discussions. The fact is that most of us are also aware that the Portland Metro is only 2.9% Black, (compared to 10% Hispanic). A 2.9% Black population makes it hard for any commercial FM signal in Portland to support a black-targeted format. Particularly one that is targeted toward the older and smaller end of the demo, like Urban AC. Formats such as Urban AC and Urban contemporary usually pull about 95-98% of their audience from blacks. Even if every black in the Portland metro listened exclusively to an Urban formated station, the best it could hope for is a 2.9 share, based on the population. And it is not likely to get 100% of the black audience. Additionally, the new people meters show a much greater portion of the black audience listening to "non-black" formats. In the diaries, black listening to Urban stations MAY have been significantly inflated due to ethnic pride. Black broadcasters are trying to sue Arbitron to stop the meters, due to its negative impact on black audience estimates. Add to this that power ratios indicated that the Urban formats usually perform financially at about 80% of their share. I would not expect to see an Urban format on FM in Portland in the next few years. It is simply a matter of population profile and demography.

I live in San Francisco CA right now and I can tell you 102.9 KBLX and 98.1 KISS-FM does very well in the ratings and in the demo ratings. Besides, majority of the ratings comes from Whites and Hispanics. Look at the personality page at KBLX.com. Also, San Francisco has less than 10% of the black population in the metro area, but it can support 4 Urban radio stations.

E-dawg: What are the audience comp numbers according to Arbitron for BLX and Kiss? (Black, Hisp & Other)? There is also a huge difference, beyond the actual numbers, between a 2.9% sub-population and a 10%. As you know, the Bay area as large metro areas that are predominantly black, and a large and vigorous black business community. Black advertisers, and general advertisers who want to reach that large black population help the success of KBLX and KMEL.
