More pink slips were handed out at CBS today. One of the victims was Marconi, he was let go today. His Sidekick- Big Jim will now be doing nights!

Cort and Fatboy will be taking his place in the afternoon.

I have on many occassions here been accussed of being Marconi because what brought me to this board in the first place was Marconi. He mentioned back in the day about his dislike for this forum because he had critics here.

I WAS a huge fan of Marconi even after the Nick Berg incident. But as I came to know Marconi I realized that he took for granted what he had and looked down upon his own fans. As a fan I felt I was a loyal listener but he seemed to forget about his fans who stood by him and others after NRK.

Its too bad that he got the pink slip today but as when he arrived at KUFO others were put on the back burner. Those guys were Cort and Fatboy. So congrats to them at returning to their deserved timeslot. I may actually tune in the afternoons now that my former fav is gone.

Good luck to Marconi! But it may be time for Marconi to think of something other than radio. Either that or back to bacon in the mornings in OKC.

my favorite marconi memory was joking on here that when the Opie and Anthony show was pulled from 970 after their Sex For Sam stunt that Marconi would have no one to steal bits from that i got the most hilarious profanity laced tirade from him via email, i kept it for years and laughed at it often, lol.....he actually claimed he used some of the same "writers" as O&A...uhhh....thats cause you stole their bits. Anyway i feel bad for folks who lose their gig in this economy, a lot of great radio folks are losing their jobs and that absolutely sucks...but Marconi, i have a hard time feeling too bad for him, he's not my type of radio guy and definitely not my type of human being

I suppose it sucks to be laid off during this time of year but it could not have happened to a a better person. Marconi not only steals material, he stole Cort and Fatboys time slot.

Now Rick Emerson can stop playing the "attention fm djs, your daily show prep starts now" line.

Emerson plays "attention FM DJs, your daily show prep begins now" bit for several people (not just Marconi). Two of them are on the 'we play everything' station at the moment I write this. One of these people is well known for stealing material.

Emerson and Marconi buried the hatchet when they both landed at CBS. Since then, things have been civil between the two.

I remember when Don Imus and Robert W. Morgan would stay on the phone with each other during their shows, Imus in New York, Robert W. in Los Angeles. They would do each others bits back and forth! There is hardly anything in radio that isn't stolen!

Wow there are some haters on here.. I really hope marconi finds something new and professionally fulfilling, say what you want about his show but the guy has production chops. There are lessons to be learned from his removal though.. Why did cort and fatboy get his old slot? Familiarity? Senority? Negative. Cort and fatboy always come strong with content. They do a topic and really deliver on it instead of over using or re-hashing teases and claims of how cool show is to get people to activly list. Marconi got big interviews and did good things in terms of creating audience and forward momentum, but his show lacked substance too often. I don't know if that was entirely his choice or a product being stifled by CBS. Either way I hope he finds another gig and does it bigger and better than ever before.

Cory and fatboy rock a lot!

Sad to see people let go from a top station....stations not doing well or with low ratings I understand...but....a top five station cutting staff? I know its happening all over, but still not a good business model for getting into the future.

I once got a email from cort shortly after Marconi used his kneepads to steal that time slot. He basically said that Marconi stole the time slot.

Look at Bozyks myspace and you will find a message clearly saying that Cort and Fat boy should of never had that time slot taken from them in the first place.

Now if the current and past staff are saying this then I assume its safe to say he stole the time slot.

No disrespect to anyone, but just exactly how does one "steal" a time slot?

Someone above Marconi himself must have made/signed off on that decision.

Cort & Fatboy are great, and I'm glad to see they're getting a more prominent airshift...but I'm not sure Marconi is to "blame" for taking over PM Drive - if it was offered and he took it, good on him.

while i personally dont know a thing about how the hiring of Marconi went down, there ARE ways to "steal" an airshift, but its something the station wants to do or it doesnt happen.

Hypothetically, if you want to hire someone badly enough you will give them the timeslot they want, or promise them a better timeslot in an alotted amount of time. All that to say, it's the DJ's idea to be in a prime slot, but its not possible without the enabling and complete support of the station management. Which really begs the question then, who really is the thief? The egomaniac DJ or the station who obviously likes their new hire more than the existing hire.

all that to say, this post isnt neccesarily a "this is what happened", its completely generic. It can, and probably in some markets, continues to happen....

How do ya' "steal an airshift"?? Does it require the use of a weapon? Do you walk up and stick it in the back of the PD and say: "Gimme the shift or you're toast". Just curious....I think that I might try it, sometime.

Cort and Fatboy...congrats, dudes.

How do you steal an airshift?? well If you are Marconi, you bust out your kneepads and suck off the current PD.

Notice how that guy is gone and shortly after so is marconis job.

Coincidence?

Cort and Fatboy are 1000 times more talented for that time slot then soon to be back in Oklahoma as Bacon...

Mc74--Why are you such a bitter little person. No one "steals" an air shift. The P.D. or G.M. picks who goes to what shift. Either you are not in the business. Or if you are, you won't last. AS far as the last comments on Marconi. He's a Pro. at radio. If you disagree. Please share with us your extensive Resume....I missed out on jobs over the years, and I didn't go crying to everyone about it. This is like Show Business. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. I think most people who know about PDX radio, would say it's not Marconi who used the knee pads but Cort in front of Vodka Boy.

How a relatively talentless intern has managed to keep any job on the same station for all these years is a mystery to many.

Don't be hatin' just because Cort has managed to stay in the same building longer than most do these days. Cort is talented, a team player and a helluva nice guy. Believe what you want about his longevity in the 1st ave building, but I think it has WAY more to do with his positive qualities than any knob slobberin'! Besides, Cort's gag reflex is too sensitive to base a career on. Congrats guys!!

Thank God. I've been waiting for this to happen.
I always wondered who listed to KUFO in the afternoon. I imagined 30 something out of work losers that smoked their share, my share and your share of dirt weed.

I used to be a BIG BIG Fan of Marconi and TINY! Tiny was Marconi's muse. They were really funny! Then they did something stupid
and they were off the air. Marconi and Christine Levine were cool but she left or got fired. I missed what happened there. Then Big Jim came
in-ugh.. not funny. and Tivo time!?!? Stupid. Horrible, embarrassing kiss-a$$ interviews. Horrible radio.

Marconi- I wish you the best but if you want to try this gig again- Please, for the love of Baby Jesus, FIND TINY! YOU NEED HIM!

Why the F would you want Tiny to come back? The kid offered NOTHING! He was not funny, and added no value to the show. Big Jim is Funny and added some comic relief to an unfunny show.

I like Cort and Fatboy a lot better and think they deserve the afternoon time slot. But I also really enjoy Big Jim, So I'm really glad they kept Big Jim!

I have no ill will with Marconi and wish him the best of luck! Being a disk Jockey is an AWFUL career because you have no job stability and they can let you go at anytime. But then again, this shouldn't be a huge shock to Marconi that they fired him! Look how many other people were blown out of CBS, quite a few!

Tiny, Nik J Miles, and Marconi were a great team together and after their infamous departure from NRK I believe there was a falling out between Marconi and Nik J Miles but not between Tiny and Marconi who still remain if I understand correctly are close.

I agree Tiny was the comedy of the show back then.

Mr Miles Around distanced himself and back peddled so much post Berg incident saying he strongly discourgaged the Berg bit but I remember him laughing right along with it.

Funny story but one of the guys that works for me now once applied for some sort of job delivering art around the Portland area. Tiny was the guy that did the interview..

As for Bozyk, read his myspace blog and you find him talking about how Cort and fatboy should of never lost their time slot to Marconi.
