Stunning! It's harder work to try and paint her as NOT so stupid. PR job from hell, if you ask me. They will do it though. There is plenty of money behind that idea. The more scary bit is that we have a not so small fraction of us that actually are pissed this woman was not elected! A nice chunk of those were plenty vocal about McCain tipping over, leaving her in the top slot too! ...and then we have the dominionists! Their stated goal --publicly stated mind you, is to saturate the government and the courts so they can dominate over the rest of us. Palin was their closest shot at it.

I hadn't heard about pardoning a turkey until somebody mentioned this story. It wasn't until I read the following description that the issue actually made sense: http://www.infoplease.com/spot/tgturkey2.html In short, since 1947, National Turkey Federation and the Poultry and Egg National Board has presented the U.S. President with a live turkey for Thanksgiving. In 1989, President Bush opted not to have the turkey slaughtered and instead held a pardoning ceremony at the White House. The turkey was then donated to a petting zoo. Every Thanksgiving since 1989, Presidents Bush, Clinton, and Bush have pardoned their turkeys. Probably the most spot on comment that I have seen so far regarding this mishap is: "This [wave of criticism against Gov. Palin] is also probably why the White House Turkey Pardon is done at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and not at a slaughterhouse."
