I thought I remembered reading about fifteen years ago in a non-trade publication that the FCC loosened all those old first call letter restrictions...and that even "N" could be used. I expected to see geographically nontraditional calls soon after but never did.... |

In the mid-1980s an application was made for a shortwave station in Alabama with the call letters NDXE (in dixie). The CP was granted, but not the call letters, which was argued over for a few years. |
