Thank you Bush Economy! This is what you get when you reduce taxes at the top while increasing spending and creating massive deficits.

"So much for my GM stock."

Think of where GM would be now if they had continued development on the EV-1 instead of lobbying against the California Air Resources Board's ZEV mandate and subsequently killing the project once they suceeded.

So stupid!

The Volt may do for GM what the iPod did for Apple.

Andrew's share of GM might be worth holding on to.

Hot chocoloate may also be a good investment (for those of you with any money, I know I don't have any). Did you know chocolate:

1. The earliest documented use of chocolate was approximately 1100 BC.
2. The Mayans and Aztecs made chocolate beverages.
3. It can affect serotonin levels in the brain.
4. It can lower blood pressure.
5. It has a substantial amount of antioxidants that reduce the formation of free radicals,
6. It is associated with the Mayan god of fertility and the Aztec goddess of fertility.
7. Cacao beans were often used as currency.
8. Two-thirds of the world's cocoa is produced in Western Africa.
9. 43% of cocoa comes from te Ivory Coast.
10. 50 million people worldwide depend on cocoa as a source of livelihood, according to the World Cocoa Foundation.

Here's a list of chocolate companies:

Here's how Hershey has weathered the storm:

I'll be more than willing to help you out with your GM stock and purchase a Denali XT Hybrid should they make it into production. One bad-ass looking ride!

I predict Hershey's stock is going to drop soon, once it becomes more widely known that they have replaced the Cocoa Butter with vegetable oil in some of their candy bars. It cannot be called chocolate anymore, it's "chocolate flavored candy". Milk Duds is one of the candies affected. I'm boycotting Hershey's, just as soon as I finish off my non-affected Halloween Reeses PB cups! Grrrr

It's now "Mock-o-late"

I'm going to think about getting a 'real' electric car - a Detroit Electric. With today's batteries, I bet it could go a kick-ass 40mph!

Of course, there is also the oft-forgotten other power source for cars.

Andrew, no offense but I feel like its time to let GM and Chrysler die. They shouldn't be rewarded for their stupidity over the last several years and while the whole industry is in a huge downturn other car makers who varied their line-ups more braced themselves for what was coming. It is one of the last bastions of the old union based economy and that bureaucracy their union has caused is what is killing the business.

I think that while the economy will hurt for a while, it will do more for innovation than anything we've seen in a century. There are new car makers who can use start up cash to produce their vehicles. Check out aptera for instance, www.aptera.com. Yes its got 3 wheels, but it gets a couple hundred miles to the gallon in its hybrid version. Tesla is working on finally building a 4 door sedan. Tata just got its first prototype of the CO2 car. Building companies like these up through increased sales will create the next generation of car companies. One where GM won't use its billions of dollars in loans to advertise why people should continue to buy SUV's over small cars.

What's killing GM is that they make crappy cars. If it wasn't for the rental car companies and company car fleets, GM et al would have been out of business years ago.

Nonsense - GM makes wonderful cars, by far the best in the industry. Anyway, if you buy a car other than GM, you clearly hate America. If you buy a Toyota, go live in Japan.

So, everyone do the right thing and BUY A GM CAR, tomorrow. (Don't buy a Ford or Chrysler; Henry Ford hated Jews, and Chrysler used to be owned by a German company.) Even if you don't need one. Spend money on a good American car made by General Motors - it will help the economy. And perhaps, it will help my GM stock go back up...

(Please? C'mon, I gotta eat here!)

Mrs. M - The European Union already took steps to make sure that foods with the cocoa butter removed and replaced with vegitable (or other hydrogenated)oils are not called chocolate. Hersheys is now trying to pass off on us what they couldn't push past the European consumers, who have the nerve to want chocolate in their chocolate. (And who reject "cheese food")

> So, everyone do the right thing and BUY A GM CAR, tomorrow.

Ha ha ha ha! Man, you crack me up!! :-)

It may seem ironic, but Toyota, Huyndai, Kia, and possibly some of the other Asian car makers have been finding that they can save money by building cars destined for the North American market in the US. Hyundai has a plant near Montgomery, AL, and Kia has been building a fairly large plant near the Georgia/Alabama border. If you buy a Hyundai, Toyota, or (soon) a Kia, you actually ARE helping US workers and the US economy!

I was listening to the Car Care Clinic on KEX this afternoon, and the subject of electric cars came up. They are looking for someone from one of the local electric car dealerships to interview on a future program. They also mentioned GM's foolish decision to scrap the EV-1 program and destroy all the cars.

I'd sooner send you money directly than throw it down the black hole of GM car ownership. Neither are likely to happen. :-)

A possible exception would be the Toyota-based Pontiac Vibe, except the name just doesn't work for me. It would be akin to a Ford Taurus Hip-Hop Edition.

Make sure to get one with the factory rear spoilers. They look good on them. And the Toyota 1.8L drivetrain has been around forever and seems to be incredibly reliable.
