I don't think that phrase means what you think it means, Broadway. Although I have noticed that there must be a chain email going around that uses that phrase. It seems to be all the rage right now among Republicans.

By the way, of the measures that were on my ballot, I voted differently than Vit on 6 of them.

Hey, we've shared votes for years. That's another reason why he posted up.

Broadway... class warfare is what the Republicans have been doing for 30 years.

Time to push back on that and deal a fair hand or two to the middle class.

After all, they are the ones that built the wealth the top percenters are hoarding. Way too many people forget that little fact. Without skilled labor, the top percent are literally nothing.

IMO, people have the right to share how they voted, the same as they have the right to not share how they voted.

If you don't want to read how someone votes, don't click on a thread titled "How I Voted."

And, can ANY thread on this board not degenerate into a "my-opinion-is-better-than-yours"-bash-fest?

What's funnier are the fliers landing in my box labeled as "Voter's Guides," some very nicely printed. I have one from Oregon CSEPAC, another from the OEA, and they are almost exactly opposite in their Yes/No ballot Measure recommendations. The CSEPAC guide admits (in very, very tiny print) that "some candidates and measures...paid for an appearance in this document", which seems lame to me.

Funniest damn thing is the Matt Lindland flyer (HD52). His picture is colorful and bold, with a flag draped behind him. Suzanne Van Ordman's picture looks like it was run off on a dot matrix printer than run over by a truck. Is there such a thing as 'heavy-handed subliminal?'

To All Voting Obama......If he wins, its's Comrade (your name). Biggest Marxist on this side of the hemisphere since Castro. Even more than Chavez in Venezuela. Socialize medicine sucks, increasing taxes by rolling back the tax cuts that the middle class got with Bush, he says he is going to give 95% a tax cut but wants to repell the cuts. He talks out of both sides of his mouth.

Think about this. You may not realize this but just about all media companies make over $250,000 a year, ($20,000+ monthly) and he is looking to increase their taxes? How about the fairness doctrine they are trying to ram down media's throats. You think the media business is tough now, its going to get worse if he wins.

Lastly, socialism creates a society that relies on government. A welfare society. I do not care to rely on my government. I can take care of myself.

"Repell" Now!

"You may not realize this but just about all media companies make over $250,000 a year..."

A "media company" makes over "$20,000 a month"? Wow! Is that gross income or what? On that HUGE income, I bet that they can employ at least 4 or 5 people, if they clean the bathrooms and lunchroom by themselves! And forget having company-paid health insurance.

Totally.

You can take care of yourself huh?

So, gonna drive on your own roads? Trade with your own bank and with your own currency? Maybe you will educate your own kids, with your own school. (that one has it's merits actually)

How about your food? Sure it's ok to eat? Maybe have the oldest taste it first?

When you see crime, or want to settle a dispute with somebody else, gonna use your own court, or maybe just johnny and vinny?

And what about those other nations? Don't you want some security in your home, your law, your family? Better stock up on supplies and be ready to spend every waking minute just figuring out how to eat, keep safe and all those other basic needs we all share.

Bet you are one of those, "I can take care of myself", until you can't types. Then you will look for help, just like everybody else does.

I'm posting mine as well. To borrow a phrase from Alfredo, just in an attempt to spark discussion, not to try to change anyone's mind.
Several candidates are write-ins. Some are real, others were just to prove a point that just about anyone running for the position is perfectly capable of destroying the political division in question, and/or disgust that only one name is on the ballot. C'mon, I really wonder what gives that there's these hotly contested seats elsewhere, yet everywhere I've ever lived it's Joe Blow, the single (usually Democratic) name on the ballot.
Just to really be annoying, I'm going in reverse order. Keep scrolling if you want to see who I voted for President.

City of Portland: 26-94: NO
Portland Community College: 26-95: YES
Metro: 26-96: NO
65: NO
64: NO
63: NO
62: NO
61: NO
60: NO
59: NO
58: YES
57: NO
56: YES
55: NO
54: NO

Note: I voted no on 54 and 55 simply because I didn't feel that enough information was provided to warrant voting for them. I'm not Kasey Kasem, but on with my decisions.

Portland Commissioner: Lewis
East Multnomah Co. Soil and Water Conservation District: none
Multnomah Co. Commissioner (Dist. 3): none–either one is perfectly capable in running the county into the ground. And, I was out of names I'd otherwise write-in.
Multnomah Co. Sheriff: Clyde Lewis (write-in)
State Judiciary: none
Oregon State Bureau of Labor and Industries Commissioner: Brad Carter (write-in)
Oregon State Rep., Dist. 46: myself (write-in)
Oregon State Senator, Dist. 23: Ficus (write-in)
Oregon Attorney General: Albies (WF)
Oregon State Treasurer: Cactus (write-in)
Oregon Secretary of State: Woolley (PG)
US Congress, Oregon Dist. 3: Meo (PG)
US Senator, Oregon: John Kitzhaber (write-in)

And, now for President...

Hope you're sitting down for this...

And not eating or drinking anything you could choke on, if you're the type to do that...

If you have a weak stomach, don't say I didn't warn you...

No, this is NOT a late Halloween trick... it's who I think would do the best despite what anyone else would think...

Last chance to hit the "back" button...

US President/Vice President: Brian Moore/Stewart Alexander (S)

100% agreed.

I don't care how you vote (actually I do, but that's not what this is about!) JUST VOTE.

In Australia there is a fine if you don't vote. (At least there used to be)

We should have the same thing here with the proceeds going to some worthy cause.

I'd say, unless there was some really extenuating circumstances that you couldn't vote the fine should be $100.

Two threads and I'm agreeing with Skybill on both. Lordy Lord.

Greatly disappointed that three Trailblazers don't vote at all.
I just don't understand that (see todays bOregonian).

Sidenote: These guys are all top money makers, yet only one is voting for McCain (in fairness, several wouldn't reveal their selection).

Rumor has it there is a measure being written to quash Bill Sizemore. This might be a good thread on its own, but the question would be how do you impose limits on authoring measures without flying in the face of the bill that created ballot measures in the first place?

No. No point in that. At least at this juncture in my life.

I didnt vote. Both canidates suck.
That's why you seek out THIRD PARTY CANDIDATES! They can really use your vote. And if you're planning on not voting anyway, you're not "stealing" any votes, contrary to those that claim that either major political party candidate is entitled to each and every vote cast.

You can still decide not to vote. Just remember some of the lyrics to the Rush song Freewill: "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice!"

And before someone says "why didn't you vote for 65?," it's because I disagree with that idea as well. For example, if we assume vote totals were the same in the 2006 Gubernatorial election and the open primary were in effect, the only two candidates to advance to the primary would've been Kulongoski (D) with 170,944 votes; and Jim Hill (D) with 92,439 votes. Kevin Mannix (R) had only 89,553.

I think you write the fix it bill such that the dollars cannot come from anything other than the people, in small amounts.

That way, whoever wants to drive a ballot measure, has to go and talk Oregonians out of their dollars to sponsor it.

Distributing the donations more or less knocks out the out of state interests, while leaving the spirit of the bill intact.

Anything that actually is wanted and potentially needed by those of us that live and work here, is something that should be no problem hitting the streets on.

Sizemore takes money from outta state, then puts it into bogus measures, one after the other. That's not the intent of the original legislation.

I always am suspect when there is profit to be made in the democratic process. Electronic voting is a PRIME example of this. Endless ballot initiatives are another. to me, having the process in place and active is worth it. What isn't worth it is the annual risk we endure should out of state money hit a home run, looking to test crap here, and or diminish Oregon in general.

Mc74-

It's my understanding that if you leave any area blank on your ballot it's considered not official. That's why they give you that write-in option. I found this out the hard way a number of years ago.

I believe the instructions indicate you must fill out every section.

I would hate for your ballot not to be validated. Maybe Andrew has information on this.

Marianagy is absolutely right. I was on a conference call with Phil Kiesling a few weeks ago. A former Secretary of State for Oregon, Kiesling emphasized how important it was to vote downticket candidates and local measures. However, he did not say that a ballot had to be completely filled out to participate in an election. To encourage full ballot participation, organizations are asking Oregonians to pledge that they will fill out the whole ballot, but it is not mandatory. To be clear, incomplete ballots can sway important contests. Whatever you decide to do with your vote, if you get it in on time, your voice will be heard.
