What does everyone think? Should KGON play a brand new song from an old band that sounds like a 70s-era rock song? I've always said "classic rock" is more of a sound than an era. This song fits the KGON mix so well that I might assume it was an old obscure AC/DC song if I didn't know better.

I haven't heard the song, but I see no problem with KGON playing a new song by a classic rock band.

We've been saying that's an acceptable and welcome way to expand that library for a long time.

Rush, Scorpions, Steve Winwood all got play on their new releases this year, to name a few.

What's classic? Would you consider G'n'R or Metallica in that group, today?

Yes to your last question.

And yes one track seems to invariably get initial airplay but then it drops out of rotation or is played during off peak hours. There is a huge amount of old "B" side hits and new hits that could indded freshen up the playlists. When was the last time you heard anything new from Def Leppards "Sparkle Lounge" played? Nine Lives is a good tune as are others. And Rush Snakes and Arrows??? The complete lack of play on that and Scorpions Humanity Hour I befuddles me.

All I can say is thanks for my Zune. I can play that music whenever the mood grabs me. I often play Scorpions newest from start to finish. I think i've listened to that CD about 50 times through by now and still love it!

rant off.....

It just occurred to me that I didn't mention that KGON IS playing the single, in case you didn't know. Hearing it on the radio is what promted this thread. It seems like we all agree that this was a good move.

I was at the gym today, and I saw a Father and son working out and they both had ACDC "Black Ice" T shirts on, with the ACDC Logo in huge letters. It was actualy quite nerdy that they were both wearing matching ACDC shirts. But this got me thinking of what great marketing experts ACDC are. They remind me a lot like KISS(except have better music) in all their marketing deals. They even have ACDC lunch boxes at Fred Meyers. Thats right, you don't want little Johnny going to 2nd grade without his ACDC "Black Ice" lunch box.

I saw the best ACDC cover band a few years back In San Fran. It was an all Chick AC/DC band that called themselves AC/D-she. These Chicks Rocked!
They even did a cover of "Big Balls" along with a complete costume change for the song "Big Balls". They came out with huge phalluses all over their bodies that looked very real. It was quite scary.
