The voice tracking on Jammin is hurting their numbers. While Jammin continues to move up in the ratings, they are not moving up very quickly.

Over here they dropped " BOB ' format for Star format on 95.7. I like the Star format ( more of an AC like thing ) better than I ever did ' BOB "....

I wonder if El Rey will still get away with charging $80.00 for a 30 Sec Spot after this Book.

I don't remember 970 having a good rating for a long time. Maybe it needs to try music. Have Pamplin get ahold of the station!

Regarding KCMD, and AM radio in general. There is a major image issue with AM radio. I am 40 and most of the people I know don't listen to AM, in fact, they are not even aware there are any stations still broadcasting AM. The few that are aware of AM believe it is all Rush Limbaugh and sports. I have a hard time believing that anyone under 100 wants to listen to music on AM, nor that anyone in the business would believe that anyone at all wants to listen to music on the radio.

Most working professionals I know, will listen to the radio for news, talk, sports. Some music, but not much. Their 1 reason is commercials. They are loud and they are numerous. Many working class people I know do listen to the radio. And a fair number of those will do AM. There is a "radio isn't cool" image problem for sure. I hear that a lot. I hear it the most about AM. IMHO, that can be fixed, but it's going to take the content investments many here have hammered on over the years. Also, given the OPB numbers and comments from others I've heard, an FM talker or two would do nicely. And when are the major AM talkers gonna start producing nice stereo broadcasts? OPB does it. XM does it. I sampled POTUS 08 in a rental a week or two ago. Some artifacts, but it was stereo and it was very pleasant to listen to. I'm half tempted to just get a sat capable radio and listen to that, from time to time as it's a freebie. And then there is always the many AM Stereo cars. Talkers would benefit from that right away, and it primes the pump for HD. Interestingly, I have heard many mentions of political talk on AM from 25-40 year olds this year. People are tuning in, or perhaps have always tuned in, from time to time, but it's coming up in conversation more because of this election. Don't know which, but I do know mentions of AM in my circle of people have gone up. (and that's them starting it, not me)

Are those ratings based on the total audience, 24/7? I would like to know how KXL, KPAM, and KEX compare in their AM drive time numbers.

Ice: Radio almost never reports 24/7 numbers. Topline in radio is Monday-Sunday, 6am to midnight. 18/7 if you like.

Disclaimer: anecdotal observations are not scientific and are thus subject to a great deal of bias. Nonetheless, I routinely notice that when people are entertaining others in their homes, there is a strong preference for playing music from MP3 players and streaming services over broadcast radio. The former two offer music without interruptions, whereas the radio has commercials, announcements, and other non-musical things. In my opinion, this shouldn't matter because in a setting like that, people are talking to one another over the music, and they wouldn't pay very close attention to the commercials or announcements if a radio were playing. What is more important is whether this represents a general trend toward away from broadcast radio in settings where those same people might be paying closer attention to the commercials.
