KUPL is boasting that they have "doubled their power" since summer. Now, does this mean they were only running 18 kW this summer and have gone back to 36 kW? Or, does this mean that KUPL is now 72 kW and Radio-Locator missed the boat?

KUPL has been running the same power since 1997. I have no idea what they're referring to, when they say that they have doubled their power.

I beleive they were at half power during the summer because of some tower work. They must be back to their full licensed power now.

It seems like an odd thing to say since they'll soon be reducing power to accomodate an increase in antenna height.

It seems like an odd thing to say since listeners don't care. Wouldn't it be better to spend that promo time saying something that emotionally connects with a listener and reminds her what she can't get on an iPod?

I'm just sayin'.

I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned their recent positioning change to "New Country" 98-7 KUPL.

Speaking of increasing tower height, I thought that they began that project back in May. The K-Hits signal, for example, generally has been much weaker (except for an occasional period when they were back to full strength or even better). It's particularly noticeable driving to the coast, at certain locations around Mt. Hood, south of Woodburn, etc. with much more multipath noticed. Try listening to them in a steel/concrete frame building outside the metro area and you'll really notice the difference. Hopefully, that project is nearing completion.

Why not use it as a promo? It's free, and it can't HURT. But the days of "your 100,00 watt power-house!" type stuff are gone, probably because we are so connected with cell phones and such that people forget about the concept of a signal originating somewhere, and fading over a distance. I bet most people who have cable TV never even think about signals over the air, and analogue static, etc. But, maybe I'm over analyzing it, and people other than radio geeks never cared in the first place!
