Heart congratulations to KXL's Managing Editor, Kevin Allen, for pursuing a profession which has always been his calling. Kevin has just been hired to be a Portland police officer. Kevin has been a reserve officer for many years, and he now combines his street smarts from his many years as a radio reporter with his skills as a Glock-totin' reservist to a position with PERS! I've known Kevin for many years, and I can assure you and everybody in Portland that Kevin no longer takes bribes.

Do us proud, Kevin. He informs us that he CANNOT (I just don't think he wants to) fix tickets for parking-challenged folks in the radio biz. I'm happy for you, Kevin. It's happening to one of the good ones in our business. We're sorry to lose you to "The Dark Side."

Congrats Kevin on following your passion to be a cop! I remember not really being sure about this kid coming into the KEX newsroom way back when, but Kevin quickly proved his worth. Portland is losing a quality news guy, but the PPB is gaining a quality officer.

Hey all, thanks so much for the kind words. An honor, especially from the amazing talent here. Radio's in my blood, and it's hard to leave. But I'm excited to work for a great department with some great officers!

Let's see...we've had the likes of John Bunnell and C.W. Jensen move from the patrol car to the studio, but this sounds like a real "man bites dog" story! Seriously, best wishes to you, Kevin. In a couple of years, I'd love to hear you write about law enforcement as viewed from having been in the media and now wearing a badge. I'm sure you'll do a lot better than Erik Estrada, Trish Stratus, LaToya Jackson, et al who were on that short-lived CBS celebrity cop show!
