I can't believe how awesome my new electric Toothbrush is. I Picked one up at Costco today and I'm in love with it. They clean your teeth so much better than those crappy 99cent toothbrushes.
Does anybody else on this board have an electric toothbrush? Or are you still using the crappy 99 cent toothbrushes?

I use the free toothbrushes from the dentist. I have had a Sonicare, still in the box, for about 2 years. But Mr. M loves his. I don't like the feel of it in my mouth.

Oh, wait, that was something else...

The quest for the perfect toothbrush is a long-running joke in our family. Toothbrushes in general are a trial and error debacle for me. I think I know which ones I like, but I end up with one that has a too flexible handle. Or it frays within a week.

So I decided to try out an electric toothbrush(es). I STILL cannot get it just right. I don't think I like an electric toobrush that actually spins the bristles. Yet vibrating heads seem to rattle my head as to receive AM signals from Medford.

The best ones that I have found so far, and there HAVE to be better ones that I would like, are the kind that have a pressure engaged button that turns them off and on with the motor in the stem.

Ultimately, they seem to clean better - but take a LOT longer. And with my recent decision to implement Ambien into my life, I suspect that the amount of toothpaste I use is going to waste while I do it at 4 in the morning. I wake up and my bathroom mirror has " Redrum " smeared on it.

I do, however, find great satisfaction in my new razor. They sent me a free sample about 3 years ago and I don't think I will ever switch.

And don't get me started on specific brands of bars of soap.

I've been using an electric toothbrush for almost two years and it has helped me do a better job. I love going the full two minutes so I can get the little smiley face in the LCD message screen. I use it once a day at bedtime, still using the old fashioned manual method in the morning.

"I do, however, find great satisfaction in my new razor. They sent me a free sample about 3 years ago and I don't think I will ever switch. "

I've recently switched from the 3 blade Gillette to the 5 blade Gillette, and it IS better. I hate going to Costco when I need blades, though. Blades, Glide floss, some Clear Care for my contact lenses, a 98 pack of Bounty, a 48 pack of Kleenex, one Costco chicken .... $100 ... add some ink for the printer and it's $150.

Years ago, I was using various brands of battery powered toothbrushes from the local drugstore. If memory serves me correctly, first I used a brush made by Butler that had a standard-shaped head with bristles that rippled in and out and back and forth. I went through two of these brushes and several replacement heads. Then, I had to stop using this brush because the manufacturer discontinued it and no more replacement heads were available. I then switched to a Crest brush with a rotating circular head. I had to stop using this brush when the replacement heads were discontinued. I then broke down and bought the Philips Sonicare brush.

I use the electric brushes at home, and I use a regular brush at work. The feedback that I have gotten from the dental hygentists over the years, based on my own cleanings is that the Butler brush's performance was good, the Crest brush's performance was fair to poor, and the Sonicare brush's performance has been excellent. However, these results may have been skewed by how frequently I replaced the brush heads. With any type of toothbrush, allowing the bristles to get bent at the ends results in a brush that scratches the gums without effectively removing plaque along the gumline.

I've been using a Sonicare for about 7 years now, which was suggested by my dentist. While it did take about a week to get used to using it, I would never go back to the old fashioned brushes. My gums are healthier and there's no doubt that the Sonicare cleans my teeth better than a standard brush. I highly suggest investing in one and once you get used to it, you'll agree that it's way better.

I still use the free brushes I get from the dentist. The only ones I don't like are the ones with the thick handles that won't fit in my toothbrush holder. When I was young, my mom was a stickler for dental health, and gave us flouride supplements every day. That, along with the hard well water I grew up on, gave me teeth of titanium - No cavities and I still have all 32 of my original chompers.

I have never used an electric toothbrush but you guys are convincing me.

As for bar soap, no fn' way anymore as body wash preferably from bath and body works best. Yeah it might be a bit fufu and metro but it works wonders for me.

Post cornea transplant the surgeon reccomended Clear Care for contact lense care and I am pissed that no one ever suggested it before as it is so much better and more effective than Boston which is what I used to use.

I also have to give kudo's to the guy that invented gel deodorant as the sticks suck.

It took me years to embrace but I also love Listerene.

Sorry to turn this into a toiletries thread.

Dr. Anna Knecht

I can't say enough good things about her! She was recommended to me by my oral surgeon during/after my 2 year process of getting a front-tooth implant with jaw bone-grafts. She did/does a great job, and while her office is nuthin' special and not fancy, neither are her prices.

She also offers N2O, my drug of choice.

I have had a Oral B electric for about 6 or 7 years. I bought it at Costco and to this very day I use the same one! I have two others I got on clearance and they are still sitting in the box. I replace the heads every time I get my teeth cleaned. I floss and use ACT every night. I have tons of manual toothbrushes but I will never go back to those unless I HAVE to. My wife does not however like the electric. Nor does my mom. My dad also has an oral b electric. I save my brush from my dentist and the ones I get for free after rebates and give them to my wife.

If I had to pick one best thing about my brush would split in half because they are both equal. The battery has lasted far longer than I would have ever thought, and the way the electric ones seem to make your mouth so clean is also well worth getting one.

You can also spend a bit less and buy one at the local drug store or wherever, for about $4.00. not sure how well those work but worth a try. And as most other items that you can refill, The refills are sometimes a bit expensive.

Yes, I use an electric toothbrush... they not only do a much better job than the manual versions, but mine (a Braun) has a built-in timer that tells you when you've brushed for 2 minutes; perfect for those of us who tend to fudge.

It's important to change the heads every few months as they become soft relatively quickly. My gums are such that I get my teeth cleaned quarterly, so Hottalk1080's idea about changing brushes at every cleaning is an idea that I'll implement

Just to clear up something, If I remember correctly, the Oral B that I have is made by Braun. Sonic, I believe is the model name.

Yes the heads do become kind of soft, but you do not want to hard of bristle while brushing as it tends to wear at the gums. (not sure if that is correct but just my opinion).

As far as how often to change head? I've heard ever since I was a kid to change your toothbrush every 6 months. I see most all toothbrushes (manual and electric) telling you to change it every 3 months. I noticed the change in frequency starting a couple years ago or so. I think every 6 months is good. of course there are some times when you might want to change it more often.

Your mileage may vary as always!

I don't understand how anyone would chose a regular toothbrush over an electric. Electrics clean your teeth SO MUCH BETTER! Electrics can get in between places that your regular toothbrush can't get. If you really care about your oral hygiene, you will invest in an electric toothbrush.

I have used a sonic toothbrush for 2 years now. I wouldnt own a manual one now, unless it was an emergency. Cleaner teeth and you can reach all your wisdom teeth and get around every side.

Just bought a new electric toothbrush at Costco and I can't understand why anyone would still be brushing their teeth with one of those regular 99 cent tooth brushes. My teeth feel so much cleaner know that I'm using an electric toothbrush.

My 3-year old daughter's toothbrush sings a song from VeggieTales.

Which led me to have my station buy a bunch of fun toothbrushes, with songs, all encoded with or PPM signature.

Does anyone remember the episode of Gilligan's Island where his fillings received radio stations? He could change stations by moving his jaw.

I used to pick up the SW station KGEI on my Shure cartridge when they would beam their Russian broadcast to Siberia (1980s). Estimated location of the first bounce was right here in Portland.

Laurie Partridge also picked up radio stations on her braces. Or maybe it was just all the drugs.
