Please explain sales people why do you think your going to get paid for the ads that WaMu contracted with the Media?

Back in the 80's under the Resolution Trust the Chiles Foundation took the Resolution trust to force them to pay for rented space when certain branches closed down. The Chiles Foundation was not sucessful as Banks placed in the Resolution Trust were considered bankrupt.

WaMu also has been placed in Bankruptcy and the Feds will not allow the commercials being ran today to be billable time. So the radio groups will suffer for all the WaMu commercials that will be ran today and for who knows how long since they will receive no revenue for the current ads being ran.

Look for more layoffs in the Portland Media Groups for this error.

Consider the WaMu spots to be,

"entertainment"

I heard a WaMu commercial Friday afternoon on CBS's KOOL-FM down here in the desert...I was kinda wondering the same thing!

What cracks me up are the poor news staffers on certain local stations who are obligated right now to deliver the current commercial tag line "Banking at WaMu-- whoo hooo!" at the end of a serious newscast.

Considering the events of the last couple of days, they must feel AWFULLY ridiculous...

Yeah, and the WaMu logo is still on the wall at Safeco Field. Guess the Mariners didn't think it was worthwhile taking it down as there was only three games left in their dismal season.

Funny thing was getting a WaMu marketing e-mail at around 11pm Thursday night touting their high-interest CDs. Whoops!

Do you people REALLY think that with all the problems WAMU is/was happening, that cancelling advertising and sponsorship deals was high on their priority list? C'mon.

I'm glad my money wasn't with them though.

The best part of the spot is probably at the end "FDIC Insured".

They need to change that to "FDIC owned" don't they?

Actually, they were immediately sold to JPMorgan Chase:

Also, even if the sign on the branch door says "Washington Mutual," it's actually operating as a branch of Chase:

Okay, so this is technically stuff for the 'Politics' board, but good to know nonetheless (especially if people out there are calling radio stations and asking if they're money is still in the bank).

Actually, I knew all that.

I was just attempting a little humor.

Apparently, too little. :-)

In a convergence of calamities, I heard a guy at noon Friday, the day of the WAMU's death--on KPAM. Dude was doing the Bill Gallagher Memorial Newscast, and it was sponsored by WAMU. He gave the little whoo-hoo. He had to.

I just heard a WaMu ad on KINK offering "free checking for life." Wonder how long Morgan Chase will keep that deal going.

(Sudden thought: Whose "life" are they talking about, anyway? Mine, or WaMu's?)

I always thought it odd that a bank (S&L) would have as their major ad campaign something that was obsolete.

Free Checking? You must be kidding me... who is their audience on that? The 90 year old lady at the express checkout who still fills out a check and balances her account at the checkstand?

That may have made sense 15 years ago... But now it just comes across as offering something for free that nobody wants or uses anymore.

Washington Mutual was even offering free checks on their last personal free checking offer, and to the best of my knowledge almost always offered free 'checks returned with statement.' Funny thing is I would write a few checks a month (bills that could not be paid directly online, donations, that type of thing), and one day Washington Mutual decides to send me a separate mailing that I would have to fill out and return a form if I expected to continue to receive checks back with my statement. When I asked if this was a new thing they were asking all customers, they refused to answer the question (teller, lead teller, etc.). One of the several reasons I switched banks a little over two years ago.

As for the ads, they're still all over the internet on various high-profile, high-traffic websites.
