Why is it that some artists/bands don't get airtime, yet when they come to town they get modest to sellout type of audiences at their concerts? Two bands/artists that come to mind are: Pepper (they usually come to Eugene and Portland at least once per year) Hank Williams III Is it that they are fringe artists or is it that there just doesn't exist a format in which they fit? I am sure there are many other artists who fit within this category name a few.

Pepper is getting some airplay! I heard them on a station in Eugene! I don't know if any portland stations are playing them. Bodeans- had a HUGE top 40 hit 6 or 7 years ago called "closer to free". I know Kink has played them, and correct me If Im not mistaken but I'm pretty sure I have heard Wilco on Kink and NRK.

Bodeans and Wilco are both on the NRK playlist currently I believe. They may not be in heavy rotation but I would bet that they get play a couple of times per week.

Why? Because radio is not about music, musicians, new music, or anything other than cold hard cash. You must be confusing radio of today with radio of the time after the big payola scandals and before Reagan began deregulating ownership.
