I hope they leak the moose stew recipe that she was circulating amongst her inner circle.

@yahoo? Well duh. She's supposed to be using a different server for state business anyway -- one that is more secure.

Palin is both SNEAKY and CARELESS.

Looks like she'll be like Dick Cheney. With better aim.

And to quote the mighty Dick Cheney: Euck you Sarah.

The question is: "Do you feel better having said it?"

..at least her e-mail domain wasn't
"@Rocketmail.com" -

- although that domain name has been with the
same YAHOO service still since 1998!

The point is that all government business is required to be conducted through the government servers; because all government business must be accessable to the public. (Freedom of Info and all that jazz.)

Gov. Palin was conducting government business away from the prying eyes of the government. Illegal. Seriously illegal.

Although the screenshots seen so far are relatively harmless, they do demonstrate that she WAS conducting official business "secretly" from the non-government account.

Can you say Sarah Milhous Palin?

No actually, I'm with you on this one Broadway. Anyone who hacks someone's personal files should be punished to the full extent of the law, I certainly would expect that.

However, she does need to come clean with some of the things the news is reporting about her such as firing the person who wouldn't fire her brother-in-law and the books she supposedly tried to have banned when she was mayor. Maybe you are comfortable with censorship, but I'm not. After eight years of Bush/Cheney hiding their questionable activities, I'm quite frankly tired of this practice. She IS in the public eye after all.

Oh this is just sweet.

and no, I'm not ok with it, but.... here we are seeing some social pressure in action.

We've got the Republicans, who very often pull ends justify means type of arguments in defense of what are clearly questionable acts. Legal, ethical and moral questions surrounding these nearly always come back to an end justify means position.

Now, doing that *and* then coming back to say this act is in the same class and being upset about that is just too rich!

Pot, Kettle, Black.

Here's the thing.

The e-mails were accessed by somebody who correctly guessed one of the security questions. Technically, this is a crack, not a hack as a hack would contain some active, executable element. (that's from other discussion boards where the HOW of things gets talked about, and that person is worried about the FBI right now)

A moderate level of security was exploited via ordinary means. Mail services, operating on public networks are MODERATE security means. Know that, if you are not doing MODERATELY dangerous stuff, you probably are not being wise to use MODERATE security about it.

Does not make it ok, but let's put hack in context, so we don't make "hackers" look bad. There are enough problems with that as it is. Hacking is not a bad activity, in and of itself. And I'm sensitive to that because I often "hack" for professional and personal enlightenment.

Ok.

Now then. The e-mails show Palin to be a liar and also very strongly suggest official business went through that e-mail. Both are crimes against the people she is supposed to serve.

Not good. How exactly were we supposed to find this stuff out, when the Republicans abuse their power to hide and obstruct the transparency we are supposed to base our trust on?

Here's the rub. If she was not engaging in secretive, bully politics, then it's very highly likely her account would not have been challenged.

She isn't taking questions. She isn't following the process we need people to follow so we can vet them for their overall suitability. She holds very strong positions that represent a clear minority of American views. And clearly, she has pissed quite a number of people off on her rise to the top.

That kind of crap has consequenses. If enough people grow concerned, a few of them are likely to just do stuff.

That's what happened here. Those that did it broke a federal law; namely, unauthorized access to a computer network. However, they also have validated some queries that really were not looking to see any significant validation any other way.

Do the ends then justify the means?

Don't know. I want to believe they don't, and will act in that fashion to the best of my ability. However, I also can't help but wonder if Palin isn't getting back just a little of what she gave on the way up.

Broadway: Never, ever commit anything you cannot live with to electronic means and methods. Once it's out there, stuff can and clearly will happen.

That suggests that those that are looking to seriously bend or break the rules need to be a lot more careful than the rest of us ordinary people are.

Why?

Because when a person does that, they then become a target. There are people in this world that will just do things to get that out and into the open. Right or wrong is a moot point. It can and absolutely will happen, so better to just avoid being in that position in the first place.

Palin failed in that and there are consequenses. Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time. And don't archive the crime on public networks, or with electronic devices, if you don't want interested others just doing stuff to take you down.

That's the lesson here. Step on folks on the way up, and a few of them are gonna want to see some payback, legal or not.

She's getting as good as she gave and that's just how the world works sometimes.

Seems like her email was very easy to hack into, thanks to Yahoo!'s password recovery feature:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2330699,00.asp

All hackers had to do was google up some of the basic info - hometown zipcode, birthday, etc. - and that was it. Took about 45 minutes.

Somewhere on the other side, Nixon is beaming a BIG smile. He already has made a cozy spot for Cheney who'll be coming soon, and in about 20 years, Tom DeLay. And now, Palin has a reserved spot in the Nixon section of "over there".
