http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26591359/ Obama on Fannie/Freddie: "Any action we take must be focused not on the whims of lobbyists and special interests worried about their bonuses and hourly fees, but on whether it will strengthen our economy and help struggling homeowners, we need to carefully address the possible impact on community and regional banks. But we must not allow government intervention to protect investors and speculators who relied on the government to reap massive profits," McCain on Fannie/Freddie: McCain said in an interview for CBS "Face The Nation" to be aired Sunday that the mortgage giants need to be restructured. His running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, said a "McCain-Palin administration will make them smaller and smarter and more effective for homeowners who need them." Please note the key words from McCain: "Smaller" and "People that need them". Does McCain think a smaller amount of homeowners having the ability to get a home loan backed by Freddie or Fannie will help our economy, help our housing market, or help the middle class?

Fuckers. The game plan works the same every time. Loosen regulations, allowing their fat-cat greedy buddies to transfer the money out of the program then watch it crash and burn proclaim to public, "look, it's broken!" "fix" it wash, rinse, repeat.

Before the solution can be fine tuned, the biggest cancers on the American economy must be removed. 1. Daily expenses in the Iraq theater must be drastically cut, and they will be. This is now common knowledge to even the most undereducated folks in the country. 2. Tax breaks for companies in energy, companies outsourcing jobs, companies locating offshore offices but actually doing most of their work inside the U.S. and the wealthiest individuals that have too many loopholes to hide income. Once this is done, there will be a close to level playing field. The righties and the lobbies will scream in pain. Every problem at that time will be blamed on these changes. Not only must the GOP finally own their failure, but they have to start paying the taxes they used to pay. Don't you feel so sorry for them?

No! I'll actually watch with morbid glee, hoping the loudest of the squeals is linked with our biggest improvements.

I read this in yesterday's newspaper. Funny that the folks that think there should be little or no government intervention are the ones clamoring for this... maybe a majority of their money is held in the balance of what happens? What if the government announced that they were taking over, for example, WalMart and Kroger (including Fred Meyer)? Same principle.
