Do any of you own compilation albums put out by radio stations? It seems that these are rare nowadays, with certain Bob Miller holiday albums being the only semi-current ones that I am aware of.

Now, I am listening to an early 1970s compilation album put out by WIBG Radio 99 (it was AM 990). This album is a motley collection of hit songs from the mid 1960s through the early 1970s, interspersed with WIBG jingles. It's good stuff. There's no obnoxious "rock-rap," no Pro Tools, no digital remastering; in short none of the stuff that people complain that are wrong with today's music.

Family has a KGON 25th anniversary CD. As far as I know, the only piece of nonmusic production on it is at the very begninning, which is the dry liner the station ran back then 'celebrating 25 years of classic rock,' or whatever.

Couple of recent ones that I have:

"Comfort and Joy 2007"... Seasonal music issued by All Classical 89.9 (KBPS-FM) during fall pledge drive. NICE!

"Plug in Portland"... A sample of local artists put together by KINK. I think my wife got it (free) at Burgerville about a month ago.

Here's a site dedicated to radio station compilation albums:

http://www.radiouseonly.com/album_master.htm

I have a few of the ones featured, here but none include jingles.

In the early '70s, I recall a theater played rock music before the movie, which was interspersed with "62 KGW" jingles. I presumed these were furnished by the station for promotion.

One of our high school bus drivers (on a long route to a district exclave) had installed a tape player, and I was puzzled by the compilation tapes he played, which sounded like the tapes I'd heard in the theater.

Lisa Austin just E-Mailed me about her website. Check out all the radio station 45's & LP's from different states, it's a trip!

http://www.radiouseonly.com/intro_master.htm

She's looking for more examples from Oregon. Unfortunately my computer isn't set up to send pictures. Maybe you can help her.

Surprised that no one has mentioned all the KINK Live CD's taken from live performances by the artist or band, at the station. Some done in the production booth and others in the "KINK performance lounge" which is the space where the old KGW production studios used to be. Pretty good acoustics! There must be 6 or 8 of those by now.
