Thought this was interesting. I'm guessing a lot of us worked for stations affiliated with Mutual in the past. I dare say the Youngin's in Radio today might not remember Mutual, or that at one time it was the largest radio network in the Nation. With that in mind, this from All Access:

------------------Mutual Broadcasting Reunion Planned-------------------

The Feeling's Mutual
It's been ten years since the MUTUAL BROADCASTING SYSTEM was shut down, thanks to mergers and acquisitions and such. To honor the great legacy of the MBS, former staffers are gathering for a reunion on SEPTEMBER 13th at the CRYSTAL CITY HYATT, not far from MUTUAL's final headquarters in VIRGINIA.

The highlight of the evening is expected to be talk show great JIM BOHANNON sharing the same mic as XM star BOB EDWARDS.

If you worked at MBS at any time and would like more information, please write to mutualreunion@yahoo.com.

Any interesting stories you remember? I remember one broadcast where the anchor ran the last story (human interest) about NBC's Saturday Night Live and then signed off "I'm (first & last name) NBC News!"

Too bad Larry Lujack isn't a featured speaker, reminiscing about the good ol' days when he was forced to work out his full contract for "Mutual CFL" after a flip to easy listening from top 40.

I do remember the Mutual network from the 1980s and 1990s that syndicated Jim Bohannon and, if memory serves me correctly, Larry King. Was that Mutual network the same one as the Mutual that was famous in the 1930s and '40s?

I was a victim of an earlier closing: the Westwood/Mutual/Infinity merge/munge when Mel Karmazin's Infinity bought WWI (owner of Mutual), then used the money to buy Unistar. The first thing Mel did was close Unistar's news operation in March of '94.
Ironically, I now live within sight of Mutual's old HQ, a block box office building in Crystal City.

There was a point where Westwood One owned both Mutual and NBC Radio. There was very little difference between the two, including using the same newscasters.

Trivial point though it is,I thought the eight-note news jingle Mutual used was the best of the four

Greenway: Then You're in luck! Look what I just found. Check out all the Mutual News "Sounders" on the link below.

Don't miss the "Today, The Feeling Is Mutual" 60 Sec. spot jingle from 1975. It was used during Mutual Newscasts and sounds a lot like the jingle "We do it for You on KGW".

Also don't miss the 30 & 60 Sec. Mutual Sports Intro beds from 1961. These were also used during MBS Newscasts as promo beds for up coming weekend sports games on Mutual.

The Best News Sounder for my money is "#6-1970's" with the beginning electric clock alarm just before the News Sounder. These are all at the bottom of the page:
