Word is out the KMCQ has signed off the air in preparation for coming on the air in the Seattle area in September. 08/28/08 - KMCQ-FM 104.5 Covington makes its debut the first or second week of September, following further testing, and fills a niche in the Seattle market with an oldies format. Do you know when they signed off. I was on HWY 26 on Friday on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation and was surprised I wasn't getting them?

Plans are also in place for KMIH to launch a radio translator on the 94.5 position in late SEPTEMBER.

All Access NEVER gets things wrong, do they? As for the move to Oldies - first of all it wasn't too bright to reveal what your new format will be, and secondly why didn't they take a closer look at why Bonneville dropped oldies on KBSG? They should have stuck with A/C and gone after KRWM - their only competitor is KXXO/Olympia.

That's interesting, last I heard KMIH was still on 104.5 and owned by the Mercer Island School District. It's still listed as such on NW Broadcasters.

AllAccess has it all mixed up! 104.5 KMIH (Mercer Island) is moving to 88.9, making way for 104.5 KMCQ (Covington) to sign on with Oldies.

Perhaps this will be one of those things where they technically do sign on with Oldies for a month, a week, one song, whatever (to get everyone's attention, especially those who feel disenfranchised with the last major format flip up there); then surprise the market with the "real" format. Knowing Seattle, they could announce the new format is "The Best Parts of Your Favorite Songs, Quick 104-5," and they'd believe it! LOL! Back when an online format change archive was online, there was a clip of a station in Houston changing to "Jazzy 106-9" for one song–Kenny G's "Songbird." Afterwards, presto, it becomes 80s Hits "106-9 The Point." I don't remember "Pure Rock 106.7" in Portland firsthand, but I know others here have talked about that, too.

If you give me a minute, I can name every format that has been on 106.7 and Pure Rock is not one of them!

If you give me a minute, I can name every format that has been on 106.7 and Pure Rock is not one of them! I want to say that a while back on here, someone told the story of in between the "Oldies 106.7" format that proceeded "Mix 106(.7)" and before K-Bach, where for an entire day they were ordered to switch between two carts worth of "We Will Rock You," followed by one day as "Pure Rock 106.7 KMXI." The next morning, the folks thinking it was remaining a rock station woke up to classical. This is as I remember someone else posting the details, I don't remember it firsthand. Yes, I realize I should probably just shut up now.

I take it back! I was confusing it with Classical 101. Not counting the stunt, 106.7 went directly from Oldies to Classical. There was an ad about it, stating that they had figured out what was wrong with the music on 106.7(or some such wording): "The oldies weren't old enough!"
