Democrats swinging to the center?

Much of the last Congress has been about the Democrats keeping control of Congress by not pissing too many people off or giving the Republicans issues to run on. This is why FISA was passed, Bush got everything he wanted with Iraq war funding, etc. Remember that there are many moderate and even conservative Democrats in the Congress; the Dems are not the cohesive group the Republicans often seem to be. The Dems have many factions and a wide array of viewpoints, so it's wrong to assume the Dems are all a bunch of left-wingers. Many Dems support some type of limited off-shore drilling. It would be foolish not to in my opinion.
