To put it in radio terms, relatability. There are a lot of people who can relate to the vast majority of his subject matter. - People who get their news from somewhere other than the the evening news - People who want to know about more music than the very narrow playlists of radio stations - People who want to read something more compelling that the latest John Grisham novel - Guys who still live in their moms' basement and carry 12-sided dice with them - People for whom run-of-the-mill talk radio simply will not do There are a lot of people like that in Portland and Emerson is a mouthpiece to their cause.

Basically, to me, they are entertaining, funny, interesting, and good radio. Tim Riley is wonderful. Sara gives us the "young" view. Rick is energetic, knowledgeable about pop culture, and keeps the show constantly moving. And they have regular features and guests so you have something to rely on each day. Am I interested in every single topic? Of course not. Do I agree with every single opinion? Of course not. But it moves quickly enough that there is something for most everyone. And I'm not really even in thier targeted demo. But then again, I hear lots of callers to the show say the same thing, so maybe we are. Bottom line, it's a RADIO show, using radio like it should be used.

Thank you early! How does that go? "I don't believe I would care to join any club that wanted me as a member." That's pretty close. I believe it's a Marxist quote.

Semoochie: Here's to Groucho [clink!] Maybe we ought to start our own format, "The Music of OUR Life"... On second thought, I'll stay lost in the 60s, 70s and early 80s, and dabble in some classic country, too... Joe's right, though...The view is terrific here!

What's the draw with any show, or station? If I don't like political talk what is the draw of Limbaugh? If you want to tune into radio for something other than music, sports, or political talk...then Rick Emerson might be for you. More specifically, if you like pop-culture, with a humorous look at news/politics (local and national), talk about movies/TV and other geek-topics, then that is the draw of The Rick Emerson show. If not, then its not your cup of tea so there is no draw. The only other show that is similar is the Adam Corolla show.
