AP - "Matthew McConaughey says the birth of his son will help bring a little joy to others in the world someday. The actor kept the placenta from the July birth of his son and plans to plant it in an orchard." What I'd like to know is, how have they been storing it all this time? In a ziploc bag in the freezer? Gross!

Interesting!! The hospital has got to provide a bio-hazard safe container for this kind of thing right? Or maybe they used a mid-wife for a natural birth. IMHO, people should have the right to do these kinds of things. I don't see the harm.

Dear Young Miss Sparkle: This is not at all uncommon or unusual. Parents often do this. We did it. And yes, after we left the hospital, it was stored in the freezer in a bag, until we found the right container and young tree. There are other uses/traditions as well. If you want to know, ask me what they are.

I think it's cool, and hopefully it's mindful of age-old traditions, and not just hip 'n' trendy. Also keeps those tissues out of the hands of unscrupulous folks in the medical community who might think you left it there for them to toy with in the lab...without your approval. Mrs. M, please continue. Traditions and rituals fascinate me
