When will they stop listing KUJZ as smooth jazz? It's been country for several years...
Also, isn't KDPM a hip-hop station?

KDPM (94-9 Jamz) is Rhythmic. It seems to me, they should have at least a 2 share.

Likely just a fluke.

Based on comparisons to previous books posted at Radio & Records, it looks like a few more diaries were distributed north of town than usual. KHPE, KLOO and KRKT-FM are all up, as well as KFLY and KDUK which both transmit from Prairie Peak. This might have even had a slight downward effect on 94.9 Jamz (KDPM) since they have no signal to the north.

Good observation!

94.9 Jamz is definitely more popular than the book is giving them credit for. 94.9's signal is pretty decent, out to the Lane/Linn County line. However, there are many poor quality clock radios and boom-boxes out there.

Regarding KUJZ being listed as smooth jazz: I noticed that Allaccess has the correct format, (country) listed. R&R still has smooth jazz. Stations receive packets from Arbitron that ask about current format, and you send it back. So either they didn't send it back, or R&R is asleep at the wheel.

Regardless, how long is Cumulus going to let McKenzie pummel them into the ground in the format? Unbelievable.

I think Cumulus will let McKenzie pummel them, then bend over, and ask for more.

Today in the 9am hour I heard the DJ back announce "Thats blah blah blah on 96.1 KZEL"

The only problem is....I was listening to KEHK! Unbelievable!

That's not unbelievable. It's happened thoughtout radio's history. I remember listening back in the 1970's to KPAM-FM and hearing a DJ say KLOG.

On TV, Richard Ross once told the K2 audience at it's news coverage close, to keep tuned to channel 8 for the latest developments on the Portland jet airliner crash.

Yes, Star 102.3's mid-day voice is KZEL's night voice!

I recently heard KDUK's night guy refer to the morning show as Robo and the Morning Playhouse, and then correct himself. (The Playhouse is on the competing CHR/Rhythmic station; 94.9 Jamz.)

Thanks Randy...I meant voice tracking. In a live situation most anyone slippes up after changing stations.

How many books will it take before KEHK, with a whopping 2.7, decides it isn't working? I continue to be amazed Cumulus doesn't adapt a true Hot AC format similar to The Buzz....

Dodger,

While you multitask in 2008, and by the way bathroom cleaning is certainly very admirable from the perspective of corporate management, you might want to further expand your talents by becoming the chief engineer.

I'm sure if you develop an eccentric personality and can fix anything that breaks, there is potential for maybe even a 25 cent per hour raise!

Giant - I already did mornings at NRQ.... for about 5 years. You may remember me from such programs as: The Porter & Maxwell show, or Two Dudes in the Morning, or Two dudes and a diva, or even the Stand-Alone Aaron Porter show. I think Vinnie may have had the right idea - larger market! And now that I've got three formats I can pull airchecks from plus my prod skills..... who knows what'll happen?

mr. charles,
I am currently soldering two wires together at home, hoping to hone my engineering skills.
I have been attempting to live for at least 2 hours per day in a small closet like room surrounded by MACS and Linux pc's and a whole bunch of old monitors.
I think if I keep this up, and invest in some bad looking, ill fitting pants, a dirty shirt with a pencil protector and just be tad more annoyed than normal, the gig will be mine. Goodbye Engineer, hello OM/PD/AT/ENGINEER!

Aaron, I would be happy to take the 5:00 news off your hands... imagine how great it would be with an actual NEWS person at the helm. (Resume' available upon request. Please, rescue me from the hell of an actual, number-crunching job).
No offense to you personally or professionally, Aaron -- I think you're great. :-) But what's with both KUGN and KPNW using disc jockeys as news people?
I have to chuckle when I hear KUGN referring to itself as "award-winning." I would like to know exactly which of the current "news" people has won any awards for news reporting. (Silence).
I seem to recall KPNW winning for best web site when Dan Mullin worked there, if that counts. Of course, they were also the only one to enter in that category.
Also, I think KUGN and Cumulus stations in general are too male-dominated these days. When I listen to the morning show, I honestly can't differentiate the voices of the three male hosts. How about adding a female somewhere, anywhere on the station??
I miss the old days, when station managers actually cared about NEWS and valued having a staff that could break news. I honestly don't know what the point is of having a news station with no reporters on staff. I seem to recall that KUGN cancelled their AP membership a few years ago. I wonder if they ever got it back. To me, that is the ultimate disgrace for a news station.

Your right Aaron you should be getting more money but not for the reasons you think. Your talent is as good as it is going to get. There are many others just as talented...the difference is they don't get taken advantage of. You knew from the start what kind of company Clueless was and to do as much as you are doing and not being compensated for it is a tragedy, but it's your tragedy. Basically your a salary guy being bent over screwed. Now if you want to disguise that by saying " All I do" for them, Maybe you should tell that to the big guy down the hall instead of us. We all know the score and how the game is played, you sir still don't seem to have a clue. I see that Bi Coastal is looking for you particular kind of talent, someone to reem and your already qualified.

Not true Radiogiant, and by that I mean you know not of what you speak unless you know something I don't. But rant on anyway. While at MRB I had a full time job elsewhere, hence the part time which still gave me 35 hours a week on the air live not VT'ed. As for Andy I know he rigged contests or a contest while at MRB or that's the word I heard from more that one person. It does not make it true but if several people back it up then you have to wonder? I know a lot because I pay attention I have many friends in the biz and 32 years of experience at stations throughout the NW!

I left MRB back in the fall of 2004 to sell products in Arizona to RV snowbirds. I still winter there each year (Nov-Feb) and make a good living. I also keep my self in the biz with voice over work while I"m there. In Oregon I distribute the same product to NW stores like Bi Mart, Joe's, and several other stores too. I own and operate a company which I develop, organize, and coordinate large events (concerts, festivals, parades, car shows) throughout the NW like Seafair, Rose festival, some of them right here in Lane Co. like the Rhododendron Festival, Function in Junction,
The Men of the Long Tom Grange Calender, The annual Relay for Life and Savor the Vine, which takes place this weekend at the 5th Street Market just to name a few. I now sell a U of O logo product and have secured the rights to also logo OSU and am pursuing the rest of the PAC 10 and NASCAR. So now your up to date Radiogiant try and get it right next time you rant about me.
And for the record MRB called me to work for them! I never applied, sent a resume, or an air check. They contacted me. I worked a full time job at a radio station on the coast plus did
MRB, I left my job on the coast and moved to the valley due to the fact I was getting so many hours at MRB, I also sold motor homes for Guaranty when I was not on the air. Need any more
info?

You should join Radiogiant and form a group that has no clue and just assumes things and post them with no real proof of what your talking about. And as far as the ass hole comment, I'm really more of a maverick who tells it like it is. Is it the truth that irritates you?

People are not required to disclose the reason they left a previous employer, as personnel files are considered confidential. Repeated questions can be construed as harassment by the questionee, who doesn't have to answer.

I hate to say that I just learned that this summer in an "Introduction to Business" class taught by someone who also currently does business consulting, but if it's true it's worth mentioning.

Your a tool, a utility guy! filling in where needed. Nothing more. You had your own shows but they were not good enough. You were replaced or you would still have those shows in the drive times. I don't hear Jerry Allen on other clueless stations, I don't hear Cyd, Mark, Dennis, Terry doing utility work down the hall on any other clueless stations. But you, you piss excellence that's why your voice is on all those stations. You are so good that the powers that be said hey let's use Aaron on all the stations. The fact is and remains they save money by using and abusing your talents across the board. Why don't you have a live morning or mid-day or afternoon drive anymore? Is it because you piss excellence and are even above your own show? Or are you just filling in where and when needed? You are right about me not knowing you personally, I have met you at radio functions before. I have listened for years to you and every other voice in both the Portland and Eugene markets for 30 years. I do know more about you than what's posted here because I know many of the same people you know, both in the biz and out. People talk, they share info, and opinions get formulated. So rest assured I am familiar, enough to know that your as good as it's going to get where you are now because there is no growth room anymore and if they have already replaced you (how many times now)? and your still taking it by (doing all you do), that clueless will continue to abuse your talents. Why would they not? It's in their best interests. My statement was it's a tragedy. And it is! no matter how you slice it, or try to look at it, whatever spin you wish to put on it. It's a tragedy! If you wear three hats, you should get paid for wearing three hats. If you re -read the initial post that's all I was trying to say.

Hey Aaron, Why don't you go apply for Middays at Kufo sice that position is now open?

Kufo blew out their midday talent, to save money and now whoever gets the midday position won't get a fulltime gig with benefits, they will get an hourly wage. They eliminated the full time position to save money.
Actually, nevermind, KUFO will be sold off soon and the format will be flipped.

Bite me Giant!!! It is I who put you in your place and raised your ire.
Thought you were trying to avoid me? I am always here to put my two cents in just like everybody else. The difference is I know of what I speak and that truth seems to just hurt wussies like you. No rants here, just the facts and the truth. Too bad the pisses everyone off...like I care anyway. I don't plan on being in radio again as I've done my time nearly half my life, which gives me great insight which is why I post here. I never said anything about my shit not stinking. It does! especially after spicy foods. Keep on posting Giant like the ass you are and I'll keep on posting like the ass I am.

This from All Access:

-----------------Allen, Prawitz To Call Oregon Baseball-----------------

The UNIVERSITY OF OREGON has named its football and men's basketball radio voice JERRY ALLEN and BROOKE COMMUNICATIONS Talk KQEN-A/ROSEBURG, OR News and Sports Director BRIAN PRAWITZ as the school's baseball broadcast team. The DUCKS are reviving the school's dormant baseball program this season, constructing a new stadium next to football's AUTZEN STADIUM for the new program.

PRAWITZ, who has served for several years as the voice of ROSEBURG HIGH SCHOOL sports, will handle play-by-play early in the season when ALLEN has conflicts with basketball, then the two will work games together after basketball season. All games will air live on OREGON SPORTS NETWORK affiliates, including flagship CUMULUS Talk KUGN-A/EUGENE.

Just like Jerry's PBP, its a part time gig (Jerry is on the morning news on KUGN) Brian will stay at KQEN but of course he will be gone some during baseball season. Many of the BB games are Fri-Sun so with traveling its a pretty taxing schedule...but Brian is up for it.

Our management at KQEN and the other BCI stations in Roseburg are very supportive of Brian's opportunity.
