1480 KBMS used to be (satellite-fed) Urban AC full-time. I think I once heard (probably here) that it was one of the best-rated local affiliates for the satellite feed. What ya tink bout dat? |

I actually miss Dj Fresh. For some reason I think Radiohustla is not Dj Fresh. I think Radiohustla might be DJ Fresh's Offspring. |

Back in about 1998 or 99', we had a part-time instructor at Mt. Hood Community who swore the only natural new format flip for Portland was "Jammin' oldies". "Jamin' Oldies, Jamin' Oldies, Jammin' Oldies." His was like a broken record. There have been, what... 8 or 10 music format flips in Portland since then. Yeah... still no "Jammin' oldies". It really perturbs me when instructors use their captive classroom audiences to present their opinions as fact. |

Jammin oldies is probably incorporated into stations like K-hits. I assume Jammin oldies includes stuff like Motown. We allready have 2 oldies stations in portland, now if we didn't, I think a Jammin Oldies station might work. |

In 1998, KKSN-FM was the only oldies outlet in town. If I remember correctly, "Jammin' Oldies" was the flavor of the month back then (i.e. a flash in the pan). |

"Jammin' Oldies" are still groovin' in Fresno and Bakersfield, but that's about it. Portland just isn't "ethnic" enough! |

The answer to this topic has been resoundingly stated: In the Portland market, Urban AC is a small niche that is currently justifiable only on AM or on a HD radio subchannel. On the bright side, both of those are available without paying subscription fees. |
