Became a school bus driver between Mix1075 and KEX/K103/105.9. You'd be surprised how many other dj's have opted for a commercial driver's license and a busload of 84 curtain-climbers!

I was in radio for 9 years then became a Produce Buyer & a cop for 12 years and then back into radio for the past 4. The last ten years operated an adult novelty & toy store on the internet. That by far is the most money I've made in my life.

What u putting in your nose?
Is that where all your money goes (is that where your money goes)
The river of addiction flows
U think its hot, but there wont be no water

I did radio for 5 years, quit, went back to college, got my bachelors, and a whole new definition of the word "salary" was presented to me.

But in retrospect, I wouldn't trade those 5 years... little money, but good times.

Security work ("loss prevention"). I even packed heat on occasion. LOL. Can you see me as a rent-a-cop? It was pretty surreal.

Actually, it is usually stupefyingly tedious. Kinda like playing the same set of songs every two days.

I've also done some free-lance writing and dabbled in some "various and sundry" type jobs as well. What-have-you.

We do what we have to do.

"Will voice-track for food." (not original but a good line)

RIGHT! Like the only way to get a "salary" is to get a bachelors degree.

Screw a bachelors degree, It's called SLEEPING WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE! Don't you know anything bonger? These days you have to whore yourself out if you REALLY want to make it in the real world today!
My Bachelors degree has made its way into the bathroom and is now coverd by my Wife's box of tampons.

IMO, it's called getting lucky. It's probably possible to get any job anywhere given that someone meets the right person at the right time and has the right qualifications and demeanor, and those qualifications and demeanor meet what the employer is looking for.

Heck, even a bachelors' degree doesn't guarantee a good job... all it says is that you can succeed in "Academia" (not the real world), and have the chance to apply what you're learning to what you know, to a professor who doesn't know you outside of their class (and you don't have to take another class with them again if you don't want to).

Heck, even a bachelors' degree doesn't guarantee a good job.

Amen to that Newflyer. Most people have this unrealistic view that holding a bachelors degree will get them some great high paying job!

I know more people who have an associates degree that have better paying jobs and are more happier with their job than somone holding a bachelors degree. I think it all comes down to meeting the right people at the RIGHT TIME! Thats why networking is so important, regardless of how much education you have. Yes, a degree is nice to have but claiming that a bachelors degree is the only way to a great job is STUPID! Most decent companies will train people. Notice that the key word is "decent" and radio is excluded!

I donated my sperm last year, I got paid 80 dollars. But just an FYI they turn a lot of people down, apparently I was one of the lucky ones. Getting paid to masterbate, not a bad deal. The clinic I went to also supplied you with a few videotapes:-)
Here are some of the guidelines to donating your sperm.

* You must be between the ages of 18-34. The sperm of young men are better at defrosting than old man sperm.

* You must be at least 5'11". That's because almost all mothers-to-be ask for tall donors.

* Your weight must be about right for your height. This is because proper weight correlates with healthy sperm.

* You must have a high school degree, almost always a college degree, and even more preferably, a JD, BMW, multiple houses, and googobs of money.

* You cannot have (or ever have had) hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, genital herpes, venereal warts, ebola, or that disease that makes little babies look like they're 90 years old.

* You must be a boy. Or a talented girl.

You'll have to start out by giving a series of donations for tests.
* count (how many suckers you got in there?)
* motility (are they good swimmers?)
* freeze-ability (are they good at staying cold?)
* morphology (are they deformed?)

Anywhere from 50% - 90% of all applicants are rejected because of deficiency in one of these areas.

After that, you will likely be asked to give your family's full medical and genetic background going back FOUR generations.

Then they'll run tests for the following
* ABO-Rh blood typing
* complete blood count (CBC)
* chemistry panel
* cystic fibrosis carrier screening
* semen analysis
* sickle cell carrier testing
* Tay-Sachs carrier testing
* urinalysis

Then you'll sign a contract stating

# It means that you have to commit to the program for 6 months - 3 years. During this time, you are responsible for maintaining good health, and you must report any chance that you could have a disease.

# It means that you can't pleasure yourself for five days before your deposit. No sex with yourself or others.

# It means that they will only allow up to 10 children to be born from your sperm, and then you're taken off the market.

Since I left the would of radio-I sold cars and trucks for about four years. I have done voice overs for ad agencies, and now I organize and coordinate events (concerts, festivals, parades, car shows, fundraisers like Relay for Life). I still consult and image and do liner and tracks for a few stations in Washington, Idaho, Wisconsin, and Arizona.

Wow, all of those qualifications for sperm donors surprise me. It's funny that there is an assumption that earning certain degrees is genetic. Intelligence probably has a genetic role, but the factors that drive someone to obtain an advanced degree are different; there are plenty of bright people who have no degree at all. How about placing a preference on IQ, instead of accomplishments. It also surprises me that potential mothers would place a preference on taller-than-average donors. I'm about average height, but I've never understood the role height plays in attraction and other areas of life. It seems so silly to me. I'm just as attracted to a short woman as a tall women. I guess it's just a personal preference.

Yup, you just can't walk into the clinic and donate some sperm. It aint that easy. Its a lot tougher after you reach 30 years of age because your sperm count goes down, way down. Althought they can't release your info, im still worried that in 20 years I will get a knock at my door and a person will be standing there, claiming that I am their father(GulP):-(

Go to Nursing school. Do the ARN @ a community college if you arent real big on Undergrad Science classes for the BRN program. You can get ur NAC license first so that you can do entry level work while attending school.

RNs are sorely needed all over the world to say nothing of Canada and the US, 700 thousand jobs understaffed in the US over the next 5 years alone. Also, there are grants out there availiable for helping to pay tuition and books for Nursing students.

I drove cab for Radio Cab while I was working part time in radio. It's not a bad gig if you know the metro area well. You're a contractor though, so you get no benefits whatsoever, and have no rights to minimum wage or anything (although I never made less than about $8 per hour worse-case scenario, usually more like $12 per hour). And the government doesn't know what you make either (wink, wink).

Actually, I've worked in sales the last few years, and I'm out of work and on unemployment right now. I'm going to start delivering pizzas for Dominoes today to supplement my unemployment benefits. They tell me with min. wage + tips + delivery fees it's not bad... maybe $15-16 per hour, and the government only knows about credit card tips, not the cash tips.

But be prepared for inconsistent hours, to use your own car, and pay for your own gas/maintenance. Technically that's what the delivery fee of 31 cents per mile is for... but it's all included in the 15 or 16 per hour estimate.

Thats a good point, If you're using your own car than Dominos would HAVE to pay you a substantially larger wage than minimum wage. I still don't like the idea of using your own car to make deliveries, even if they are paying for the gas. If I ruined my Yugo while delivering pizzas I would be PISSED!

I had a Dominos Brooklyn Style pepperoni Pizza the other day.(The only reason I ordered it was because it was on sale.

It was by far the most disgusting Pizza I have ever had in my life! I have never had a pizza that greasy EVER. And I've eatin a lot of pizza in my day but this was just awful. The cheese slid right off the crust. Terrible!

No Offesnse Shane, this was not directed at you, Im just sharing my past and LAST experience ordering Dominos Pizza. I dont even think they use real cheese.
The worst part of all, the delivery driver ran over one of my sprinker heads. I had just put up a new Sprinlkler system for my lawn last week and the bastard ran over my new sprinkler head:-(

Several of us have gone into Real Estate.

After I left Radio, I took a year off and then pursued Real Estate in Washington state, specifically Vancouver/Clark County. Debb Janes is also a licensed Agent in Vancouver, as well as the "Still in Radio" Steve Lloid.

We all do well, despite the market being what it is. I would attribute that to being good listeners, working well with the community, and for Steve, his laugh!

I believe there are a few others that are still in various mediums that are Real Estate Agents, such as Ken Ackerman, host of Comcast News segment.

It does seem that "Everyone and their Mom" is in Real Estate, and it's probably a true statement. Basically, anyone has the opportunity to get a real estate license.

However, not everyone can be successful in it and make a living. That's usually due to the person. Fortunately all of us mentioned above are doing fine, and know what it takes to be successful.

Did you get your license yet Bunsofsteel? We're here for you when you need it. :-)
