The Newcast was one of Carlin's early showpieces. The 1996 version from Hollywood Palace is an almost-verbatim version of the one appearing on his classic album "Take offs and Put Ons." It is funny to see Carlin's face doing the routine, however, and it clears up one joke that is puzzling on the audio version: when Al Sleet, the Hippy-Dippy Weatherman, talks about the weather map "which the cats have moved over here, man" you can see visually that he's confused which shoulder he should be looking over for the map. Ah! That finally solves a 25-year-old mystery for me. |
