Here's the article: http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1819898,00.html The article makes one mistake, and that is the game of craps pure chance, where poker is a game of skill. Both feature variance, in that there are odds and payoffs. In poker however, it is possible to choose to lose and absolutely do so. In craps, you can choose to take a serious chance at losing, but you may not actually lose, and that's the difference. Both enjoy sharing time with others. Both games are social. I'll leave the conclusions for another post after I think about them for a while.

I prefer games of skill with some chance, than straight up luck.

Me too. It then becomes an active thing, worth doing. The best part is then testing your ability to roll with the punches! The games are never dull because of that variance.
