I don't have an HD radio yet, but imagine I will get around to it at some point as I get more curious about what all those additional stations offer.

I suppose one incentive would be to see the full list of all the HD stations here in the Portland market. Might that list be provided soon here on the pdxradio.com web site?

The Ibiquity site has a fairly up to date list:

What I think could be interesting is if a non-commercial station, like KBOO, offered its HD-2 sub channel to a local university. I know that I brought this up before on the board, and some people asked, what if objectionable content on the HD-2 causes the host station to be fined? Or, how many college students have HD Radios?

In the case of objectionable content, the host station would be liable to be fined by the FCC. But, look at what KBPS-AM and the Portland State University have been doing for years. This arrangement could serve as a model.

Most college students probably do not have HD Radios, but I'm sure that if they wanted to hear the school's station badly enough, they would spring for one. Isn't this very similar to the situation in the late 1950s, when some of the earliest student FM stations went on the air? Most students probably didn't have FM radios in their dorms then.

If the HD Radio pushers wanted college students to have HD Radios, they'd advertise the heck out of them on campuses, probably run "win a free HD Radio" promotions, put marketing material out there that 'not having an HD Radio would be like not having an MP3 player or a cell phone,' etc.
Then, saying that the college radio station is on an HD2 or even an HD3 feed would be a further draw.

Alfredo_t:

Or how about a currently off-the-air reading radio service (www.omnimedianetworks.org/Golden_Hours.htm)? (wink, wink) :-)

...That might be a good choice, too (the reading service, that is).

CCrane commercials are Premiere radio network ads that run on the network feed of Coast to Coast. they are not sold by KEX, they just happen to run on the station.

I heard 97.1 and 92.3 in HD yesterday, but I can't get them right now. Are they transmitting in HD right now?

CBS is in the process of moving to the new tower. Presumably, their HD Radio stations are part of that process.

There's a dry-air leak in the main Stonehenge line, and to work on it that have to put the stations into their backup antennas. Since KGON, KYCH, and KWJJ HD stations use the backup antennas, they get pushed off the air.

Howard University in Washington DC won an award for its HD2, see http://www.nabradioshow.com/2008/newsroom/multicastaward.asp

Other colleges have put "student" stations on their HD2.
