This from the KSFO website: Condolences to the family and colleagues of veteran San Francisco broadcaster William D. "Bill" Shaw, who died June 14 at age 93. In the 1960s Shaw developed KSFO into "The World's Greatest Radio Station," featuring a number of legendary Bay Area personalities including Don Sherwood, Jim Lange, Carter B. Smith, Dan Sorkin, and the late Al "Jazzbeau" Collins. Shaw was first named manager of the then Golden West Broadcasters-owned KSFO in 1956 and was eventually named President of that company's broadcast division, a position he held until his retirement in 1977. No services were held at Shaw's request. Memorials may be donated to the San Francisco Chronicle's Season of Sharing charity. Bill Shaw built a masterpiece of a station with KSFO. If it wasn't truly the "worlds greatest radio station", it was damned close to it. The original sounders he elected to use ("The Sound Of The City" choral cuts) probably captured the essence of that station... and the feel of San Francisco in those heyday years... more than any other single sounder ever produced.
