This is a fairly redundant simulcast situation. Due to the low ground conductivity in South Carolina, the coverage areas of both 5kW AMs fall almost completely into the coverage area of the 25kW FM. A few weeks ago, I was driving through Salt Lake City. There, KSL AM/FM are simulcasting a news/talk format. Both stations are broadcasting HD, and the FM station does its analog broadcast in stereo. In that case, due to the moderately high ground conductivity in Utah, terrain, and the high power of KSL-AM, the AM station has better coverage. The groundwave on 1160 can easily be heard into southern Idaho and Eastern Nevada.
