It'll probably just be another exercise in futility, but the more information like this makes it into the media the more the rest of the 23% will finally admit we were misled into an unnecessary invasion of Iraq.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080605/pl_nm/iraq_usa_intelligence_dc

"The president and his advisors undertook a relentless public campaign in the aftermath of the (September 11) attacks to use the war against al Qaeda as a justification for overthrowing Saddam Hussein," Rockefeller said in written commentary on the report.

"Representing to the American people that the two had an operational partnership and posed a single, indistinguishable threat was fundamentally misleading and led the nation to war on false premises."

A statement to Congress by then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that the Iraqi government hid weapons of mass destruction in facilities underground was not backed up by intelligence information, the report said. Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon said Rumsfeld's comments should be investigated further, but he stopped short of urging a criminal probe.

The committee voted 10-5 to approve the report, with two Republican lawmakers supporting it. Sen. Christopher Bond of Missouri and three other Republican panel members denounced the study in an attached dissent.

Bookemdono, this is only the beginning of the crap you will gobble up. That's what it's intended for, gullible people like you who hears what they want and believes what they want to.

After the election, when the Dumocrats have clear control Congress and Obomba is in the White House, you will see massive amounts of time and money spent on political hammering of Bush, instead of getting on with the country's business.

Remember this post.

The latter. But admitting that would mean that " someone may get the best of Deane. And nobody does that - although many have tried." So admitting that is part of history is best ignored.

Besides, Deane has never actually said he was sorry. So until he does, he gets to hear all the griping that we want to dish out.

The Republicans are gonna get hammered HUGE for what they have done. Remember too, the Republicans rubber stamped, and are still trying to rubber stamp, this crap through.

All of them, accomplices. Deserve every lick for selling our future and killing our kids.

George W. Bush and Dick Cheney should have been impeached by the US House and found guilty in the US Senate for high crimes and misdemeanors and removed from office. If having sex and then lying about it warranted Clinton’s impeachment, then lying repeatedly to the American people about the need for war coupled with the senseless killing of thousands of US troops and Iraqi citizens should warrant the harshest punishment possible. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney should both be rotting away in Leavenworth, Kansas.

When the Democrats do have control of both the executive and the US Congress, it will be interesting to see just how much money Dick Cheney’s former employer Halliburton has fleeced from the American taxpayer. If Harry S Truman was able to investigate war profiteers as a member of the US Senate during World War 2, then why shouldn’t members of the next US Congress do the same? I mean really, this war has lasted longer than World War 2 and cost nearly a trillion dollars. It’s time for a full scale investigation – so when there is a legitimate need to go to war, we know what not to do.

You don't have the chops. Rhetoric and twisted facts is all that you can produce, with racist and elitist undertones. The rise and fall of the RWA's has turned all you hollow conservatives into a gang full of blathering numbskulls. When presented with accuracy, you reply with rhetoric. When presented with opinion, you reply with twisted facts and misleading tripe. If we boiled down everything the conservatives have to offer, there would be nothing left in the pot sans a few particles of saturated evil.
Conservatives that can no longer defend the actions of their champions should point no finger in any direction but themselves for the misery index we live within, thanks to the morons in the Republican party that have been running the show since the anointment.

I say: "Deane, you've posted more racist stuff than anyone else combined. The fact that you don't see it for yourself is what's the saddest."

Deane says: "Show me some."

I say: "I've already discussed it with you on a previous thread regarding Obama, go through the archives. If your memory is that short, then don't ask me to waste my time to show you what I've already shown you."

Deane says: "It's as I thought. More of your BS."

Oh yeah? I like nothing more than nailing people's asses to the wall when requested.

From the "Obama's passport file breached thread":

"The reasons Obama doesn't want anything about him seen is that it may not look so great."

-What might not look so great, in relation to his passport records? This is a purposeful statement to smear Obama casting doubt on his backround as a black man who has lived in Muslim nations. This would not be in play if Obama was white and grew up in the midwest.

"Brainl, you're not paying attention to what's really been going on with Obama. His support for 20 years of a radical anti-American pastor, his involvement with the Weather Underground, with Louis Farrakan.

Where there's smoke, there's fire."

-This is among the most racist stuff Deane has posted. This is meant to scare old, white America. White churches are filled with hate mongers as well, but because this is a black church, it's different. Black fear!!!

"Do we really want the Presdient of the United States to be someone who has been attracted to individuals who hate America, who are involved in terrorism, who hate Jews, etc?"

-Now Deane is tying Obama to terrorists and people who are anti-jew. People that live in fear of the differences between races EAT THIS SHIT UP!

"Missing, this association with questionable elements has been going on with Obama for decades. Only now, while running for President does he denounce the Rev Wright's radical anti-American, anti-white ramblings. Only now, while it's necessary for his candidacy for President.

His wife recently let slip their anti-American views which are apparently pretty deep seated.

I'm telling you, where there's smoke, there's fire."

-In other words, because Obama goes to a black church, he's anti-American and anti-white.

"Andrew, when I started this thread way back when, I knew very little about Obama and really wondered what everyone thought. It was since that time I began to realize he has a history of gravitating towards anti-American and anti-white individuals. Since I started this thread, his wife has made her anti-American position known."

-More of the same race baiting using black fear.

"It's not possible to move forward TOGETHER with the member of the Senate who has the most liberal voting record of any Senator, and who throughout his life has gravitated toward friendship with those who are anti-white, anti-Jew, and anti-American."

-If you say it enough, it becomes true, right?

"If you want to move forward together, pick someone closer to the middle of the spectrum, not a radical who early in his life got involved with the Weather Underground who stood for the violent overthrow of the U.S. Government."

-Obama want to overthrow the US Government? Maybe it's YOU that's smoking the Oregon Gold.

"So far, it appears he isn't beholding to anyone except perhaps that Chicago gangster that he's been more involved with than has come out yet."

-Ah yes, let's bring the term "gangster" into play. Is Obama a gang banger now??

"Chris, if he associates with anti-white and anti-American individuals, and hangs around with Farrakan and the Weather Underground, how can he lead America to greatness?"

-Anti-white, anti-American, Farrakan...I'm surprised we aren't talking about the Black Panthers!

"I'm saying this is a person who as aligned himself with anti-white, anti-American, anti-Jew persons and movements. More than one alliance. More than just now and then. A 2 decade leaning in that direction. Is that what you want for the leader of the free world? Do you really want Louis Farrakan and Jesse Jackson running freely through the White House?"

-Okay, now we bring Jesse Jackson into the mix, that will raise some white eyebrows.

Judge for yourself whether or not race is an issue with Deane's comments. He may not be a racist in his own mind, but I see his comments as playing on racial fears in white America.

You just got served old man. I guess your memory is pretty short.

Born-again Christians hitched their wagon to the most failed and corrupt presidency since Warren G. Harding, that being of course George W. Bush. They’d follow this man to the gates of hell if he asked them. It amazes me to no end how these people can behave like sheep. They place their fate in the hands of people who have acted in such unchristian fashion, yet they continue to serve as his biggest apologist and cheerleader. It’s appalling – and it shows a deep level of ignorance which doesn’t speak well to the born-again Christian set. If I were a born-again Christian with a brain, I’d be both embarrassed and mortified at how my religious movement could have been so royally duped.

If Adolph Hitler would have come out as a born-again Christian, they would have been out there supporting him in their storm trooper garb with bells on.

Maybe I need some serious couch time with the shrink as well. Obama is not the Messiah, but he’s much better suited to be president that than lightweight currently in office or the presumptive Republican nominee. After eight years of the current monstrosity, Obama will be like Heaven on Earth. Obama might not be perfect, but he possess something the current office holder seem to be desperately lacking, a brain. When I hear George W. Abraham Lincoln was a self taught lawyer with time in the Illinois state legislature and the US House of Representatives when he became president. So to contend that you need a resume full of experience doesn’t cut it. Look at George H. W. Bush, probably the best prepared person to be president considering the length of his resume yet his presidency wasn’t much of a success. There is a good deal more to leading than a polished political resume. Look at the presidential greats and it’s a good deal more than resume; depth of character, vision and leadership ability.

When I think of great presidents, I think of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S Truman. Reagan, a hero to the conservative movement, doesn't deserve top tier placement. Perhaps upper middle, but by no means top tier.

As for George W. Bush, if I felt he deserved credit for something, I'd be the first one to offer an attaboy for effort. But when you look at his record, he is a supreme failure. The lies surrounding the Iraq War coupled with his complete lack of fiscal responsibility would place him towards the bottom of any objective list ranking American presidents. His record speaks for itself and I would expect that history will judge him rather harshly.

"and now Reagan is considered (now that's he's passed on) to be one of the greatest Presidents of all time"

By some.
To others his presidency began the decline of the middle class.

broadway: "and now Reagan is considered (now that's he's passed on) to be one of the greatest Presidents of all time."

He is???? Ha ha ha. Surely you're jesting aren't you?

Oh, here's a handy list of adminstration convictions for your amusement:

"By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever."

1. Lyn Nofziger--White House Press Secretary - Convicted on charges of illegal lobbying of White House in Wedtech scandal. The lobbying would not have been illegal had he not been White House Press Secretary.

2. Michael Deaver, Reagan's Chief of Staff, received three years' probation and was fined one hundred thousand dollars after being convicted for lying to a congressional subcommittee and a federal grand jury about his lobbying activities after leaving the White House. Same as with Lyn Nofziger.

3. James Watt, Reagan's Secretary of the Interior was indicted on 41 felony counts for using connections at the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help his private clients seek federal funds for housing projects in Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Watt conceded that he had received $500,000 from clients who were granted very favorable housing contracts after he had intervened on their behalf. Watt was eventually sentenced to five years in prison and 500 hours of community service.

4. John Poindexter, Reagan's national security advisor, guilty of five criminal counts involving conspiracy to mislead Congress, obstructing congressional inquiries, lying to lawmakers, used "high national security" to mask deceit and wrong-doing...

5. Richard Secord pleaded guilty to a felony charge of lying to Congress over Iran-Contra. Appointed by William Casey to assist Oliver North.

6. Elliott Abrams was appointed by President Reagan in 1985 to head the State Department's Latin American Bureau. He was closely linked with ex-White House aide Lt. Col. Oliver North's covert movement to aid the Contras. Working for North, Abrams coordinated inter-agency support for the contras and helped solicit illegal funding from foreign powers as well as domestic contributors. Abrams agreed to cooperate with Iran-Contra investigators and pled guilty to two charges reduced to misdemeanors. He was sentenced in 1991 to two years probation and 100 hours of community service but was pardoned by President George Bush...

7. Robert C. McFarlane, Reagan's National Security Advisor, pled guilty to four misdemeanors and was sentenced to two years probation and 200 hours of community service. He was also fined $20,000. He received a blanket pardon from President George Bush...

8. Alan D. Fiers was the Chief of the Central Intelligence Agency's Central American Task Force. Fiers pled guilty in 1991 to two counts of withholding information from congress about Oliver North's activities and the diversion of Iran arms sale money to aid the Contras. He was sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service. Alan Fiers received a blanket pardon for his crimes from President Bush...

9. Thomas G. Clines: convicted of four counts of tax-related offenses for failing to report income from the operations;

10. Carl R. Channel - Office of Public Diplomacy , partner in International Business- first person convicted in the Iran/Contra scandal, pleaded guilty of one count of defrauding the United States

11. Richard R. Miller - Partner with Oliver North in IBC, a Office of Public Diplomacy front group, convicted of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

12. Frank Gomez

13.. Donald Fortier

14. Clair George was Chief of the CIA's Division of Covert Operations under President Reagan. George was convicted of lying to two congressional committees in 1986. George faced a maximum five year federal prison sentence and a $20,000 fine for each of the two convictions. Jurors cleared George of five other charges including two counts of lying to a federal grand jury. Clair George received a blanket pardon for his crimes from President George Bush...

15. Rita Lavelle was indicted, tried and convicted of lying to Congress and served three months of a six-month prison sentence.

16. Philip Winn - Assistant HUD Secretary. Pleaded guilty to one count of scheming to give illegal gratuities.

17. Thomas Demery - Assistand HUD Secretary - pleaded guilty to steering HUD subsidies to politically connected donors.

18. Deborah Gore Dean - executive assistant to Samuel Pierce - indicted on thirteen counts, three counts of conspiracy, one count of accepting an illegal gratuity, four counts of perjury, and five counts of concealing articles. She was convicted on twelve accounts. She appealed and prevailed on several accounts but the convictions for conspiracy remained.

19. Catalina Villaponda - Former US Treasurer

20. Joseph A. Strauss - Accepting kickbacks from developers

21. Oliver North - He was indicted on sixteen felony counts and on May 4, 1989, he was convicted of three: accepting an illegal gratuity, aiding and abetting in the obstruction of a congressional inquiry, and destruction of documents (by his secretary, Fawn Hall, on his instructions). He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell on July 5, 1989, to a three-year suspended prison term, two years probation, $150,000 in fines, and 1,200 hours community service. His conviction was later overturned.

Presidential legacies take dozens if decades of years. What's interesting is that back in the 80's there was the same hate Reagan spirit from the liberal community as there is today hating Bush...and now Reagan is considered (now that's he's passed on) to be one of the greatest Presidents of all time...what gives?

Same shit that YOUR EXTREME side did for 7 1/2 with Clinton and POUNDED Carter into submission. Don't give EVERYONE YOUR crying game because YOUR side did/does the same GD thing!
If Obama wins in November YOUR side will be the FIRST to start HAMMERING on him. It will be CONSTANT!
You'll have some photo shop pic of him snorting coke or standing on the street corner trying to pick up a hooker.
It's just what you do.... It's just your ROVE way of life.....

I didn’t realize so many Reagan Administration officials found themselves in trouble with the law. The way Reagan apologists spin it, his administration held to the highest ethical standards. But then I remember people like Jim Watt, Debra Gore Dean, Samuel Pierce and Richard V. Allen among others. And of course the Iran-Contra Affair and those nationally televised hearings. It makes me wonder about the character of people who enter public life then abuse the privilege. Most of these folks seem to get a slap on the wrist. I’m sure once they’ve served their time, friends and acquaintances find them work without regard for their conduct in public life.

Broadway - People ALWAYS point out the good when a President passes on. People were "slobbering" all over Gerald Ford when he passed.

Heck, I remember Richard Nixon's praises being sung when he passed away in 1994. If anyone was going to be kicked further to the ground on his deathbed, it would be Mr. Nixon, don't you think?

I can remember watching Richard Nixon at the funeral of his wife, former first lady Patricia Nixon in California at the Nixon Library and Birthplace in 1993. Richard Nixon put her through hell and finally showed some emotion at her funeral. It’s the only time I ever saw Richard Nixon cry. He was a mess.

I can remember when former President Ronald Reagan landed in southern California sometime after the inauguration of George H. W. Bush. He was greeted by some old time Hollywood types and the USC Marching Band. While on a modified reviewing stand, someone had him put on an oversized Etruscan helmet. Needless to say, the former president’s advance men had not vetted the arrival ceremony and Reagan looked pretty foolish. Where was Michael Deaver when he needed him?

Reagan had a genius of a lead image maker during his first term – his deputy White House Chief of Staff Michael Deaver. He understood stagecraft better than nearly anyone in modern politics in the 1980’s (or modern history for that matter). If you look at Reagan's second term and some of the public relations blunders that followed, you'll see how much Deaver was missed.
