I went to the show last night at the Amphitheater. The weather was a little less than desirable, but Rush rocked the house as expected! It was basically a repeat of last year's concert with a few twists to the play list:

Limelight
Digital Man
Ghost of a Chance*
Mission
Freewill
The Main Monkey Business
The Larger Bowl
Red Barchetta
The Trees*
Between the Wheels
Dreamline

Intermission

Far Cry
Workin' Them Angels
Armor and Sword
Spindrift
The Way the Wind Blows
Subdivisions
Natural Science
Witch Hunt
Malignant Narcissism
Hope
The Spirit of Radio
2112 Overture/Temples of Syrinx*
Tom Sawyer

Encore

One Little Victory
A Passage to Bangkok
YYZ

*New song from last years setlist

I was elated to hear The Trees, which is one of my all time favorites. It was also awesome to see them play 2112. It was also great to hear new found favorites like Between the Wheels and Natural Science. And Ghost of a Chance sounded great, even better than I thought it would. Alex Lifeson outdid himself on that song. But, the best songs of the night were Freewill and Red Barchetta.

What are you talking about Marvin. Canada has some of those talented people I can think of.
Lets see.... Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, Alanis Marmalade.
OOPS your right canada artist do suck!

Loverboy, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Tom Cochrane, oh and the Bare Naked Ladies.

Canadians do Hockey pretty well but when it comes to a guitar, they suck.

Bullshit. Only an ignorant ass would judge a band by what country they are from. Figures Mc74 and Marvin are on the same page...

Well I would agree that Canada has its fare share of crappy artists. Ie- Nickelback and Celine Dion, BUT They also have some extremely good artists like
Rush
Triumph- Remember the song "fight the good fight"?
Steppenwolf
Bush
Finger eleven
The Guess Who
April Wine.
Its funny that when someone mentions canadian artists, it always gets a negative connotation. I've never heard of anyone give high praise to canadian artists.

Loverboy,so-so Bachman Turner Overdrive,No way, I like BTO a lot! They are a spin-off of the Guess Who Tom Cochrane,Never heard of him oh and the Bare Naked Ladies.agreed

Don't forget Neil Young, one of the greatest guitar players ever.

I didn't know Steppenwolf was Canadian! I like their song "Snow-blind Friend" a lot.

Ill say this, as much as Rush sucks, atleast they are cooler then Vitalogy.

WTF?

While Vitalogy and I may not agree on much politically, we don't resort to 3rd grade name calling.

Most of my currently favored bands are form Canada. They are enjoying a nice run in the semi-indie world. Not much airplay. I'm ok with that. I suspect they are less so though.

The New Pornographers.
Arcade Fire.
Great Lake Swimmers.
Our Lady Peace.
The Pursuit Of Happiness.
The Tragically Hip. ( Canadians are apeshit for this band - constant arena sell-outs when touring )
Wolf Parade.
ACDC.
Oasis.

My favorite Canadian musician of all time? Bruce Cockburn. Especially when he's doing a solo gig.

Skybill says

"Tom Cochrane,Never heard of him"

Tom Cochrane was the lead singer for the 70's group Red Rider. Their biggest hit came in 1981 when they recorded the song "Lunatic Fringe". Tom also had a solo hit called "Life is a highway" back in 1991. Im sure you've heard it. The Rascall Flats stole the song and recorded it a few years back. Tom's version is way better!

JT, Thanks. Yep. I know who Red Rider is and I like the song "Lunatic Fringe".

I've probably heard "Life is a Highway" just can't place it right now in my feeble brain!

" Bullshit CJ!!!"

I didn't think they were Canadian. I've seen too many documentaries and concert films of ACDC to confuse that. But there is nothing I can say to change your mind if you really think I thought that. No biggie to me. I WILL cop to mistakenly selling Live at Donnington to friends as a homecoming show when that DVD came out. I thought Donnington was in Australia. Their spoken accents don't exactly scream Manitoba though.

And I used to think Crowded House was from Australia. Until I looked up a lyrical reference ( te awamutu ) from their first album - and discovered they were from New Zealand.

And being a fan of The Manchester scene ( Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Black Grape - anyone else think that the film 24 Hour Party People is extremely funny? ) I also knew from where Oasis hailed.

I have been wrong about many things musical though. Boston, for example, from Gresham. I thought they were from Hillsboro.

Two shows, 630 miles on the truck, and a bunch of new swag...and an entire weekend doing whatever I wanted.

Priceless.

The Gorge show was great, but really windy. Big surprise there LOL...and the venue was not as cool as I expected it to be. Great view of the Gorge, but unsecured metal folding chairs that everyone just kept moving around as it suited them was a problem in my section. Getting out of there was also a nightmare, like it is here at CCA. Next time, it's the grass and camping!

The CCA show was just as good, if not better than the Gorge. CCA had the full on light show and pyro that we didn't get at the Gorge, so bonus points for CCA.

The band sounded great both nights, had fun and were energetic as always, just as expected.

Excellent weekend!

That's awesome that a few of you got to go... I've considered myself a fan of Rush since I first started listening to rock radio, but still have never been able to go to one of their Portland-area concerts (family was broke in the 90s, and now currently out of work). :-(

I will say one thing though... 10 years ago when I was in high school, I told someone else I liked Rush and their comment to me was 'don't talk about that around here, everyone thinks they suck. So you should think they suck.' (Not exact words, but you probably get the idea. And no, I didn't take their last piece of advice.)

Can someone say "overrated..."
It's okay if not everyone everywhere likes them. Web browsers have always had a nifty feature called the "back" button.

I've probably heard "Life is a Highway" just can't place it right now in my feeble brain!
Probably... it's the song that goes "Life is a highway, I want to ride it all night long. You're going my way, I want to drive it all night long." It's been used quite a bit for quite a few different things, and I'm fairly sure there's been a (recent?) country remake of the song.

It's prevalent in the animated film CARS, Believe me. I know, I have a 5 year old son.

I will be travelling to see Radiohead in Washington this summer. I'm an above average fan - but have never seen them live. This seems like a good time in their career to do so for me.

Adn Eddie Izzard is coming. Won't miss that one.

:-( I'm extremely sad that I couldn't make the show. Either one, as I had planned the Entre Nous type of trip ...

I am glad that some of you got to witness God at his craft with his two best friends. EN - sorry I missed you at the Gorge. It's such a fantastic venue, and adding Rush to it ... wow.

The playlist looks a bit mixed up from last year, but the same stuff. Natural Science is a great song, I agree Vitalogy ...

Next time, I'm just going to have to tell mom she's to suffer on her own. A man has priorities! :D

I wouldn't go across the street to hear a Canadian
rocker, but we did catch Diana Krall at the Sonoma Jazz Festival last month. And despite her bronchitis, she was--as usual--great.
