If McCain wasn't good enough in 2000 being THROWN under the bus why is he okay in 2008? Poor Johnny Mc was drug through the mud for 4 1/2 months while DUHbya and Co. assaulted him from every angle.
WHY is he okay now???

He's all they've got.

The Republicans have got to run somebody and McCain is it.

He's not ok, he's just it.

The Republican brand is as popular right now as Tylenol was after the Chicago Tylenol poising case in the early 1980’s. After years of falling on their faces for so long, their one bloody mess. John McCain is the unfortunate fellow who has to run on the Republican brand.

As for the question posed by Trixter, in politics, that’s not at all uncommon. Ronald Regan and George H. W. Bush ran against each other for the 1980 Republican presidential nomination – and they tossed all sorts of dingers at one another. The most famous was George H. W. Bush calling Reagan’s economic plan “Voodoo economics”. But later that summer, they kissed and made up. Senator Robert Dole confronted then Vice President George H. W. Bush about campaign tactics on the floor of the US Senate when the two were running against each other for the 1988 Republican presidential nomination regarding. And during the 1992 Democratic nomination campaign for president, Clinton ran against several others for the nomination and they were pretty vicious to one another.

Politicians eat their own -- and leave us the leftovers.

Because Republicans do not pick the guy that is best for the job, they pick the guy that can beat the other guy.

Seems to have been working thus far.

Define " working."

Winning the race? Or being right about having picked the right person that will do a good job?

And with the left keeping up their constant in-fighting, we'll see another Republican for 4 more years...and all the new conservative supreme court justices, too.

Thank you, Hillary.

Buh-bye to the dastardly Roe v. Wade.

That is one way to look at it.

However with the Dems having their time in the political sun may prove to be McCain's downfall. Obama and Clinton have been able to keep the discussion going on in front of America. McCain is left trying to find a voice in the middle of all this.

I think old school will meet new school after the Democratic Convention and you will see a strong political party very much in unity to the dismay of the GOP. It's called momentum and I hope it will carry all the way to the White House.

Absolutely.

There is a distinct new school movement happening. It's powerful and I suspect it absolutely will not be denied.

Not this time, not this year, yes we can... change.

That's very basic, powerful stuff. Unusual, given the politics we are used to. For me personally, I'm wanting to see it happen and will support it out of morbid interest, if nothing else. The current status quo really sucks. Why not change it up?

For what it's worth, I think the Republican party will go through the exact same thing after this election cycle. That will be a good thing too.

Mr. McCain is being given lots of time to consolidate his forces and pile up the dough.

I've been listening to the hand-wringing lefists on scare America. You guys are terrified.

You've been listening to Rachel Maddow. She's great isn't she?

I think the hosts expressing that fear have valid points. It's harder to get it done, if we go to the convention. It can still get done though, and one factor in this cycle, that's distinctly different is how Obama has structured his very people powered campaign.

That difference is the difference between well funded election efforts and a movement.

Movements are very difficult to crack and they've got a lot of power, where people are working directly with people, distributed over time.

That stuff does not make the news, and it's being factored out because it's under the pundit radar.

I'm concerned because I would much rather see a slam dunk. On the other hand, if we've got to work for it, and we get after it and get it done, then it carries more meaning and potency.

No pain, no gain. Seriously.

If it were an easy slam dunk, then maybe there is a case for things not being as bad as we thought they were and, if so, then perhaps there is not so much change needed and we might end up with lip service instead of a difference being made.

I'm no fan of the HMO's, or big tobacco.

But I don't want socialised medicine, either.

Too bad we just can't all get along.

That difference is the difference between well funded election efforts and a movement.

Do you mean the Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacre Movement?

"And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said
fifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and
walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement.

And that's what it is , the Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacre Movement, and
all you got to do to join is sing it the next time it come's around on the
guitar.

With feeling. So we'll wait for it to come around on the guitar, here and
sing it when it does. Here it comes.

You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant
Walk right in it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant"
