No. This is why John McCain will NOT be our next president.

Besides, if terrorists are willing to fly jets into buildings, is there any question that they'll do whatever it takes to fight for their cause? So, I don't really see this as news, just more fluff to scare people like you (and it works, which is why they do it).

It may be nothing but a scare technique, but it will work. Surprises are going to keep happening right up to election day.

This one will hurt Obomba and help McCain without question.

Like I've been saying for years now.

A little sabre-rattling is all that's necessary for a Republican to win in 2008.

What I don't get is why these terrorists don't understand that they're virtually guaranteeing that they'll have a strong on defense president. Great for the United States but not so great for terrorists and the appeasement crowd.

I guess that's why they're both so whacky.

George W. Bush has had 7 years to decapitate the head of Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden. Instead, he insists that the real problem is Iraq. Again, how dumb is this man? The USA should have captured Osama bin Laden years ago and brought him here to be tried for murder. We throw everything and the kitchen sink into Iraq while NATO is screaming at the United States for its lack of attentiveness to the situation in Afghanistan. Thank God January 20, 2009 isn’t too far off.

Note that even the FBI admits that there is no evidence of a direct threat. What is somewhat ironic about this story is that if the terrorists wanted to do real damage, they would just carry out the attacks. If you think about it, it is pretty foolish for terrorist groups to be sending out press releases saying that they want to see WMDs used.

"What I don't get is why these terrorists don't understand that they're virtually guaranteeing that they'll have a strong on defense president."

What you underestimate is the savvy of the terrorists. I'm sure deep down they'd love to have McCain be president, as he will assure continued recruitment of new al qaida members by continuing the Bush war policy. Our continued presence in the middle east will do nothing but make al qaida stronger, as is evidenced by the last 5 years.

"Intelligence and law enforcement sources tell ABC News they are expecting al Qaeda operatives will post a new video on the Internet in the next 24 hours"

First it has to actually happen. Second, anyone with half a brain (oh my, the shrub didn't make the cut) realizes that propaganda machines are rhetoric driven. The fantasy of the righties is that they will win another election rooted in the politics of fear. America doesn't buy what McSame keeps running with and Deane and Herb keep spinning. People are going to vote their wallets. They aren't better off. They've been lied to repeatedly by the Bush administration. They are quite aware of McSame's trying to play the fear card, and his clear adoption of Bush dogma in order to win the GOP nomination. If he continues to ploy these same avenues, he will be handing Obama the election. The collapse of the Republican party is in progress.

I think you right wingers have yourself convinced that the American voting public believes whatever they read/hear/view.
America isn't stupid. The margin of the Bush elections (and I use the word "elections" loosely) was so small that it is hard to fathom how you righties think this tactic will work again.
No, Herb, saber rattling will not work. The US wants out of the financial drain the Iraq adventure has become. The Bush/Cheney goal of making KBR and Halliburton a bunch of money has worked, so in that sense it was a victory for the Republicans, at least the wealthy ones. The lack of oversight in Congress ended in 2006 and the removal of the larger stumbling block, a hawk Republican in the White House, is about to happen.

Dream on right wing. Dream on.

Sounds reminiscent to Nixon in 1968 and his secret plan to end the war in Vietnam. He had no plan, but it sounded good at the time.

Plus those pesky rumors of Reagan's people in 1980 secretly negotiating with the Iranians to keep the hostages until after the election. We can thank William Casey for that bit of intrigue.

Hopefully no October surprsie.

Thanks for confirming the shallow thinking of those to the right of center. That's really all it takes?? You make a good Hamiltonian case for dumping popular elections - the 'rabble' are much too easily swayed by fear.

EXTREME RIGHT propaganda is powerful and October brings many SURPRISES. Watch October because the EXTREMEIES will drag out Osama and CONSTANTLY bring up Obama's middle name. Muckraking is the EXTREME'S game and they are masters.

I have to wonder about your use of capital letters.

I understand you doing to when you type extreme, cause extreme isnt extreme enough unless you type it this way..... EXTREME

But what or why do you use all capitals on such words as surprises or constantly? It doesnt really add much.

No way!

*PLONK!* is timeless. This is one of the most excellent things about the net --it's bizzare lexicon.

Who would have thought plain old ASCII text could be so expressive? Sorry to digress here, but this is one of the perfectly human things we do. If you have any interest in the art of conversation and want to see a little bit more than you would otherwise see about the human mind and it's ability to communicate, find and establish meaning, you could do a lot worse than study the roots of Internet communication.

Fast forward 20 years and *PLONK* will still perfectly convey the sentiment.

(yeah, I'm old school and damn proud of it!)

Chris Matthew’s did a segment today where his program counted the number of seconds John McCain and George W. Bush were seen together in public prior to a private fundraising event in Arizona. All of 27 seconds. Now that’s what I call supreme confidence in our commander and chief. I guess the only thing he’s good for is raising money from the GOP faithful.

That's actually pretty funny.

Obama is starting to work the Bush angle now too. I got a really interesting fund raising letter (can we still say that with e-mail, or what?) yesterday. Basically, existing contributors have pledged to match new contributors, giving for the first time.

When you step up, you get to know the contact info of the matching person, and can then talk about the movement. This guy is SHARP! I like everything about that.

The lead into the money drive was McCain and Bush, hosting closed events!
