Maria Chapman, the five-year-old daughter of Steven Curtis Chapman, was killed Wednesday when she was struck by a car on the singer's property outside of Nashville. According to Tennessean.com, the SUV was driven by Chapman's teenage son, who did not see his sister as he pulled into the driveway. The girl was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Hospital where her death was confirmed. Maria was one of three girls that Steven and his wife Mary Beth adopted from China. No charges are expected to be filed. Chapman was recently in China with his band, where he continues to champion international efforts for orphans.

My heart goes out to this family. Have spun countless songs of Steven over the years...such a gifted artist now handed the most worst tragedy...the loss of a child (but shes in the hands of God) Praying...

Oh Dan this horrible news.

I remember Steven when he was first getting started. He performed for about 200 people in Portland.

We interviewed him the day of his concert then my wife and I emceed his concert that evening. He talked about how he and his wife were looking to adopt down the road.

I would meet up with Steven over the next few years and he always seemed to remember me, not by name so much, but we would reconnect like old friends.

This is heartbreaking.

Yes...I concur...he was one of the few CCM artists that would remember you and by name too. Pray for him and family and hug your kids today!
