Does anyone remember the original address of KSWB when it signed on 930kc in 1968? The Broadcasting Yearbook only lists a P.O. Box. The only address I've found is: 615 Broadway #202. If I remember correctly, wasn't it in a stand alone building that looked like a little house with the calls on it. The address above suggests it's in an office building. Here's a memory flogger for old "Radio 93" fans: |

Craig, contact Jerry Dennon. He was the owner of the station when it went on the air, as I remember. |

It was in that stand along house for many years Craig. It was still there in '98 I think, when I did a handful of basketball games for them. Aren't their studios in Astoria now? |

Remember driving through Seaside back in the 80's and tuning into the station at 840 I believe. The modulation was so low I started picking up the station just a couple of miles from the city if that. Wondered how anyone listened. |

I lived on the North Coast from 1985 to 1993, and recall that KSWB was located next to the Seaside Public Library on Broadway, which is what Highway 101 is called in that part of town. |

As I recall The Brothers Four were also part owners with Jerry Dennon of the station. Jerry is still alive and kicking with his Jerden/Soundworks operation. He releases a lot of spoken word cds, historical stuff, etc for which there is a strong market. Plus he still makes available all those old 60s Jerden rock/pop releases. I have known Jerry for many years and my first rock band was actually signed to Jerden. And I have the old royalty checks to prove it. Yeahh Baby!! |

The KSWB jingle reminds me of something: From what I heard, at one time, KABL used the first 4 notes of "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" and KNEW used the next 5. I thought Broadway was the road that went to the turnaround and why does Broad Street sound familiar? |

As I recall, the jingle was "93, by the sea, KSWB" (with a sustained 'B'), by the Brothers Four, who had some ownership in the station when it signed on around May-June 1968 (I lived in Astoria then). I recall that some of the partners at KSWB had some kind of ownership of KAST before it was bought by GM Bob Chopping |

Is that the same Dick Curtis that gained quite a bit of noteriety as the Oregon Border Patrol guy in the Blitz-Weinhard beer ads? "Where you boys goin' with all that beer?" He also had a locally produced variety show on KPTV for awhile. |

Wow, great memories from Jerry Dennon. Now let's see if my memory is right, I recall the station signing off with the Mitch Ryder rendition of "What Now My Love" after the sign-off announcement that included "sorry, but the government won't let us (stay on later)". |

When I first started working at KHOK Radio in Hoquiam, WA in 1961 it was a daytimer too and we signed off every night with "Shake It Up" by Paul Revere and The Raiders. Real rock n roll, that song just kicked butt from the opening electric piano riff to the fade with Mark Lindsey just screaming his lungs out. |

KAST was right across the bay highway from the high school, and their sign-off was a standard announcement and the Star-Spangled Banner at midnight. |

Did the jingle go something like this? "93, by the sea, K-S-W-B, you and me, we will see oh how happy we'll be-cause we're in Seaside, K-S-W-B." Just a thought, I've never heard it. |

840 is a US clear channel. Before they broke up the clears, there was usually only 1 station on a clear channel at night, in this case, WHAS Louisville, Kentucky. I'm not familiar with the particulars but am guessing that KSWB was able to produce a decent nighttime signal, using a single tower on 84 whereas it would have required a carefully thought out directional array on 930, which may have been cost prohibitive and possibly out of the question. |

That old KSWB jingle actually went:"93 by the sea, KSWB..." (Just be glad I'm not singing it!)I also remember they called their jocks the KSWBeach Boys. The only on-air name I remember from those days was Dave Rader. |
