We know that Movin' is out and Jammin' is in at 107.5. However, there is more the story. Thanks to Radio and Records! by Keith Berman CBS Radio has picked up the rhythmic format and intellectual property of KXJM (Jammin')/Portland, Ore. and has installed it on KVMX, which flipped Friday night (May 9) from rhythmic AC "MOViN 107.5," since Rose City Radio announced earlier this month it would flip Jammin's original 95.5 home to sports. Jammin morning crew "PK's Playhouse" will also make the crosstown move, and current MOViN PD Lisa Adams will program the new "Jammin' 107.5, Hits and Hip-Hop." All weekend, 107.5 is simulcasting 95.5, giving CBS the unique opportunity of being able to tell the market that the format is heading up the dial, and the simulcast is ending Monday morning (May 12) at 10 a.m. after PK's show. CBS is also picking up the station's Web site at www.jamminfm.com, which continues to stream live. "This is a rare opportunity for CBS Radio/Portland to acquire the well-established, successful Jammin' brand as well as a morning show that is consistently top-rated in the Portland market," said CBS/Portland SVP Dave McDonald. "And, we have the luxury of informingcurrent KXJM listeners of the switch via KXJM and KVMX airwaves for the next several days, which is really unprecedented in the world of radio." Rose City Radio president Tim McNamara said, "We're obviously very pleased that "Jammin'" and the Playhouse will continue on in Portland. While we're excited about our new direction, we're thrilled Jammin' will continue serving the community and stay a top-rated station at in the market."

I find it a bit odd that the new station Jammin 1075 will be playing "Hits and Hip-hop". I assume thats different than the Jammin 95.5 format that 1075 is currently simulcasting. Im happy Lisa Adams didn't get blown out, but I hope she doesn't program this station like a soccer mom station. The promos on Movin were really cheesy and lame in my opinion.

I noticed the last night that the commercial breaks are different on 95.5 and 107.5, and 107.5 is playing the standard fare that used to air on Movin'. Even heard a promo plugging some 'soccer mom and kiddie' event that "Movin' 107.5" was promoting that's not happening for another few weeks! Movin' is gone already!

The soccer mom crap won't work on a station like Jammin 1075, especially with a morning show like the Playhouse who are NOT targeting soccer moms. I hope they bring back the big Voice guy that used to be on Jammin before Mark Adams left. The JAAAAAAAMIN 95.5 voice guy, he was great! And I believe KDUK is now using that voice guy also!

So.......Will all of the Jammin 95.5 staff move to 107.5 or just the PK playhouse folks?

Ive been looking around on the web at stations across the country that play "hits and Hiphop" and the good news is. EVERYONE of these station have a full airstaff and from the looks of it, they are all live! At least the main dayparts are!!!! So Im guessing CBS will have to get its Butt in gear and start hiring some LIVE TALENT on the new Jammin 1075. Like Terry Danner said earlier, These types of Stations rely on the big name personalities! So it sounds like if CBS REALLY wants to make a go of this station, they will have to hire a live air staff. Its crucial! I say Bring Stacey Lynne back to Afternoons!

I say KUDOS to CBS Radio Portland on doing this. By buying the "identity" of the station and the personalities, they can pick up most of the former Jammin 95.5 listeners. More importantly, to the listeners, it just looks as if their station moved on the dial; if this is done correctly, they don't have to know or care that a different company is running things now. Now, I'm wondering what will get higher ratings in the next book: the new 95.5 or the new 107.5?

Listeners might also notice the lack of promotions and street team antics. At least no Hummers and the like that was so over the top at Jammin' when it started. This feels more like CBS hanging on the shirttails then really caring about the product. But I would love to be proved wrong. Having built in ratings, listeners, and advertisers obviously offers a short term boost to the 107.5 frequency and possibly longer term results if CBS does not screw it up. Of the big three in PDX CBS does seem to doing more things "right" from the talent perspective than CC and Infinity. I'm surprised that Rose City did not acquire a new signal for "The Game". I wonder if they tried? Being basically a stand alone station group Jammin’ just seemed like a good fit for them. Wonder if a LMA or profit share is in place or how much RC got from CBS for the IP of Jammin’? Hope the details come out in time.

Of the big three in PDX CBS does seem to doing more things "right" from the talent perspective than CC and Infinity. Amen to that one Radiofoam. CBS is still putting on great radio! Look at KUFO, they do VERY LITTLE voice tracking, they even have a live over night jock, how cool is that?? KUFO is moving on up in the ratings, while the heavily vocie tracked stations are tanking. Its amazing what a little money invested can do! Hopefully CBS won't fuck this thing up by putting Zero dollars into the station. If they can get some GOOD Live air talent and some dollars for promotions they will have a winner. Just be happy that Cheap Channel didn't acquire this station!! Hopefully CBS is smart enough to put a great live product! Only time will tell.

I think this is a great format change for CBS Radio because it will diverse their portfolio in Portland. Also, CBS does own some CHR/Rhythmic stations nationally. We know the CBS tried Lite 106.7 and that didn't work while they owned a few successful AC stations. However, I think CBS will make Jammin 107.5 work with great promotion and also imaging. One more note: the theme "Hits and Hip-Hop" is probably from CBS heritage station WBBM-FM B-96 in Chicago, which is one of the top CHR/Rhythmic stations in the country and was one a "Hot Hits" top 40 stations in the 80s. I like the "Hits and Hip-Hop" line better professionally than "Portland's Party Station." Another thing to add: if the same voice announcer from Jammin 95.5 is not added to the new Jammin 107.5, don't be surprised if Z100 adds he.

Of the big three in PDX CBS does seem to doing more things "right" from the talent perspective than CC and Infinity. I agree, but I think you meant to say CC and ENTERCOM. Infinity was part of the CBS family of networks. A few years ago, the Infinity name was changed to CBS Radio.

Nope Trixter Im not kidding, The Jaaaaamin 95.5 voice guy was great. he was used for most of jammins success also. I can't remnember the voice guy who voices it, but he is GREAT! KDUK is now using him and Kduk sounds a lot better. Jammin 1075 better get to him first, or else Z100 will. I wish I could remember his name, he is out of San Francisco. Mark Adams used him the entire time at Jammin.

Just found him! Its St. John at Wild 94.9 in San francisco. Hopefully Jammin 1075 will use him for the imaging. If Not, Im betting Z100 will steal him.

If Jammin 95 were successful, why would Fisher get rid of it? And if it wasn't successful for Fisher, why would CBS pick it up?

So did anybody else hear the format flip? It was best experienced by listening on two radios. The Playhouse was doing a countdown to when the show would be "officially" on 107.5. When they got to 5, the show was potted down on 95.5, and a pre-produced piece advertising The Game started playing. On the 107.5 frequency, the countdown got all the way to the end and PK (?) yelled, "this room is now CBS pro-per-tay!!!" Then, some party music played. I airchecked 95.5 but didn't think to do the same for 107.5. I'm curious, was this morning's Playhouse show done from the 95.5 studios or from the 107.5 studios? Also, will there be any call letter changes for 95.5 or 107.5?

The 95.5 studios held todays show. No announced call sign changes yet, but why would you need to buy the signs? You have all of the important things.

I listened to the flip. I thought it was hilarious that 95.5 cut PK's countdown short. Marconi and Tim McNamara where on at the same time and talked about what its going to be like down at CBS for the Playhouse. It was pretty funny. I didnt hear Sonny on today. Is she no longer part of The Playhouse?

I have to say (again) that the JHAMMMIN voice is one of the most irritating things I've heard on the radio.

I hope they didn't lose Sonny on the playhouse. She was the "Brain" of the show. I also didn't hear Scooter. I wonder If he is on the show! One other thing, The Playhouse will not be broadcasting at the CBS building on Front AVE right??? I assume they will still be broadcasting where they always have been. I too LOVE the Jammin 95.5 Voice guy, - St. John and hope he returns!
