And it wasn't conducted by Fox News!

Is was conducted by the National Science Foundation.

Here are links from several sources;

BTW, the National Science Foundation has a pretty cool monthly email newsletter if you're interested.

Here's a link to May's newsletter. Enjoy.

Edit add: My personal feeling is you are only as happy as you CHOOSE to be!

Chris, FWIW, I don't think you are a liberal. I'd guess more middle of the road IMHO!

And very good at it BTW!

Ignorance is bliss, and this proves it.

The study doesn't say anything about ignorance. Just happiness.

So I guess to make your statement correct it would have to read; "Bliss is ignorance"!!!!

Middle of the road. Yeah that's me. With all the roadkill.

People that are ignorant have less to worry about. The less you know, the less you worry about stuff.

Not to mention, most conservatives probably lie about their happiness anyway because they'd feel ashamed to actually say how they really feel. Suicidal people say they are doing fine before they commit suicide, so I don't put much stock into these kind of surveys anyway.

Its true, Liberals are always in a bad mood. Always protesting this or that..

Maybe its also cause the majority of Democrats are out of work hippies and living under a tree puts them in a bad mood.

How many of the people chiming in on this actually read at least one of the articles? The Yahoo article explains that the research found that "conservative" respondents were more likely to rationalize economic and social injustices than the "liberal" respondents. The "conservatives" thus had a more optimistic outlook.

I found these conclusions interesting because anxiety, anger, and fear regarding abortion, declining public morality, illegal immigrants, out-of-control city planners, skyrocketing taxes, liberal "conspiracies," etc. are typically associated with people on the conservative side of the spectrum. Perhaps, "conservatives" generally don't take these issues as personally as some of the participants on this board and talk radio hosts would like to suggest?

It makes me happy that Conservatives are happy. That's the goal, right? Good for them for finding happiness.

Now I just took the " happy " lead though.

Is it possible that conservatives are generally older than liberals and what they're really saying is that older people are happier than younger ones?

quote:

The rationalization measure included statements such as: "It is not really that big a problem if some people have more of a chance in life than others," and "This country would be better off if we worried less about how equal people are."

IMHO, how this rationalization occurs is a key differentiator between the two coarse characterizations.

ie: "Ends justify means." "Everything happens for a reason." "Sometimes life isn't fair."

These kinds of things all boil down to coming to some level of acceptance on matters. How we get there varies, of course, but we all either get there, or are unhappy!

More later, after I think about this some more. Happen to be in one of these could be happy, but am not phases. Some introspection, put in the context of this difference, might be fruitful!
