FYI, it cost me 58 cents to mail my ballot (weighed it on our postage machine). So, one stamp won't get it there. Hopefully others are smart enough to figure this out!

My only issue with VBM is that I think the envelopes should be postage paid.

I agree with you 100%.

I saw a bit on the news last night where since the postage is going up next Monday that the counties have asked the post office to deliver the ballots even if people put the old 41 cent stamp on them.

This is my first time voting as an independent after 30 years as a Rep. Not as much as my wife has to vote on. So my 41 cent stamp should do just fine.

Remember to get your ballot in before 8 p.m. on May 20th. The earlier you get it in, the less crazy our elections offices will be on primary night. Since turnout will likely be huge and historic, I was kind and sent mine in already.

In the spirit of things, here is a peek at my ballot:

President: Barack Obama
US Senator: Steve Novick
US Representative 3rd Dist: Earl Blumenauer
Secretary of State: Kate Brown
Attorney General: Greg Macpherson

Wanna save a stamp, make a last minute decision or smile for the television cameras in the long lines on the 20th?

Here is where you can drop it off:

Vitalogy, either your postage machine is pessimistic or a lot of Oregon ballots are going to be returned to sender. It's pretty much assumed that they cost one US 41 (or 42) cent stamp to mail. Even the Oregon Republican Party has sent out mail telling people to use a 42 cent stamp starting May 12.

I have never heard anyone I volunteer with (Bus Project, registered thousands of voters) mention anything about needing extra postage. Doesn't make sense anyway; it's only two pieces of paper and a second envelope. (well, my Multnomah County ballot is two paper ballots, one for the county.) Surely the Secretary of State or the county elections office would have made SOME announcement of the need for extra postage. Otherwise, tens of thousands of ballots will be returned to sender.

I voted the same as Littlesongs except I voted for Jeff Merkley for Senate. While I think Novick is smart and witty, I think Merkley would make a better senator. But to be honest, I doubt either one of them can beat Smith anyway.

OPB reported today that all ballots will be accepted by the elections offices even if they are a penny shy.

I agree Andrew, Gordon is gonna be a tough Senator to pry out regardless of the candidate.

Andrew, my ballot contained 3 ballots, and when I saw the notice on the stamp section on the envelope that said "postage may be more than a standard stamp" I weighed it on our postage machine and it was 58 cents to mail it, according to our machine. There was a lot of paper stuffed into that ballot once it was all said and done.

Vitalogy, what county are you in? My Multnomah County ballot was only two pages (four sides). And there was no note about extra postage; presumably it was pre-weighed ahead of time to send with only one stamp. I wonder how many people in your county ignored the warning and put just one stamp?

Clackamas County. We had the two ballots plus an additional ballot that appeared to be very local (mostly a waste of paper since most all of them were running unchallenged or were nothing but write ins). I would have to imagine that not everyone was as careful as me to read the disclaimer by the stamp section.

Folks, use the drop offs. They are everywhere. Library, police stations, etc.

BTW: I went Obama, Novick, Shrader, Brown, McPherson.

It will be fantastic to hear Obama's "This pretty much does it" speech from Oregon (hopefully), and Hillary's "We fought the good fight but now it's over" speech, also from Oregon.

On to defeating McBush.

I think Hillary will be in Kentucky, having a victory dinner of horsemeat with her guest of honor, Archie Bunker. :0)

Yes, I was hearing today that Hillary is expected to win West Virginia. A state with her regular consituency: Poor, low-educated, white folks.

A real base to build on, eh?

It's kind of funny actually!

Obama is scooping up nearly everybody that has a clue. I think he's gonna just rock, given he's not shot or framed or something.

I finally got my ballot finished and turned in earlier today.
BTW, I'm nonpartisan and think all three major Presidential candidates are the wrong choice for the country, and furthermore don't agree with their party platforms; therefore I don't believe I'm doing the country any disservice by having no party affiliation.

Portland Mayor: Sam Adams
Portland City Commissioner #1: Chris Smith
Portland City Commissioner #2: Ed Garren
Portland City Commissioner #4: Emily Ryan
Multnomah County Commissioner District 3: myself (no, I'm not on the ballot.)
Metro District 6: Robert Liberty
Measures 51, 52, 53: NO

You're only shorting yourself by not voting for a candidate for president. Even by choosing the lesser of three evils, you are still participating in the selection that would do you less damage.

I think they'll all do the same amount of damage. Besides, I'll be voting for someone in November.
