Making a personal committment to not contribute to threadjacks and/or not respond to the topics of abortion, Nixon, Bill Clinton, bible verses, or any other topic or fundamental issue that we have covered over and over and over, and will always continue to disagree upon, or that YOU personally are tired of responding to, reading, or reacting to.

If I feel the need to thread-jack, I will start a new topic. Or bite my tongue. Hard. I am going to do my best at not taking the same ol' bait.

Does anyone else want to try to stick to the topics, unless of course, it actually IS an interesting natural progression of the thread? That does happen many, many times here. I'm just talking about the "same ol' shit".

Lent is over, but I'm going to commit to doing this until the end of the month.

I will. I think that's why some of the past regular's, who I very much enjoyed, have been scarce of late. Littlesongs, Entre Nous, & Merkin to name a few. It is tiring to check in and see the same BS all of the time.

So, I will try not to detour from the topics, this will be hard for me, but I will try. I have a feeling we are going to start seeing a record number of new threads.

I will as well. I’m pretty new to this side of pdxradio. But I have to say that it’s difficult to let remarks go unchallenged. Some of what is posted is so outlandish that not responding seems almost irresponsible. I’ll do my best.

Just take into consideration who is posting what. WE have a certain, unnamed, one note Sally in here that consistantly brings up the same shit. I will personally try and not fuel this any longer. If the challenge is within the topic of the thread then fire away but if Sally tries to take it to the usual side bar then just ignore it.

AND TRIXTER, if you are reading this, give it a try man! I know this will be painful for you but it will be worth it in the long run. Try a Nylabone so you don't bite off your tongue.

I'm with you Mrs. M., as long as you add Bush sucks, WPE, all the problems of the world are Bush's fault, etc, etc to the list of prohibited subjects.

Almost EVERY single thread turns into that. Even more so than abortion hijacks.

Good idea. Let's have real, meaningful, discussions.

I already don't open most political threads, and try not to respond unless I think I'll have insight that isn't going to be posted by anyone else.

At one point there were only a few political threads here, the rest were other small-talk threads or gripes about some software or website company buying something else.

Anyone thought of asking Dan if the space/bandwidth from political threads is taking away from discussing radio or other topics?

"Anyone thought of asking Dan if the space/bandwidth from political threads is taking away from discussing radio or other topics?"

It has already been addressed. That's how "Politics and other things" came about. This side has more activity than the other side. Call it the "staring at the car wreck" effect. It attracts people to the website.

Bandwidth? Ha ha ha! Surely you're jesting. This lo-fi website hardly needs any, period.

Tell you what, I'll sacrifice talking about Sea Lions if the other side will stop talking about abortion.

Or, I'll stop talking about anything Bill Clinton if we can have a truce on anything Nixon.

Or, I'll give up talking about God if the other side is willing to stop talking about God.

I think we've covered all of those subjects just fine.

Steaks, the upcoming election and Sammy Hagar. That's enough for me.

Again, I’ll do my level best to stay on topic. But I do take much delight in seeing the name of our illustrious commander and chief dragged through the mud. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I'll take the pledge. The same ol' same ol' is getting very very tiring.

On a similar vein, I was thinking about starting a thread where all the standard hot-button topics are fair game, but the poster must present (and defend) the best argument from the other side's perspective, with full understanding that it is not the poster's actual opinion.

I don't think Herb could do it.

St. Louis:

Imo's; Pizza and beer.

Michaels; Chicken wings and beer.

Any of the restaurants on "The Hill"; Pasta and beer (or wine)

You get the picture!

Uh oh, I think the "Let's not hijack threads" thread has been hijacked!

I don't know what was more fun - the St. Louis thread or seeing DT get off the plane the following evening.

Hilarity ensued, either way.

Anyhow, I notice a very eerie absence in this thread of a couple certain ... antagonizers that shall remain nameless.

The silence is deafening.

I'm here and I'm in. I do take the bait, especially when it comes down to the "A" topic. Call it "a female perspective" (there are so few of us here). I enjoy 99% of the discussion, even when it naturally deviates from stated topics...Like CJ said awhile back, it challenges me to examine my opinions.

I too miss all the fun threads. I think the politics of the moment are front and center because it's so crucial to make the choices clear this time around. I appreciate the willingness of the many thoughtful people here to sift through the clutter and do that. I think I will add one more challenge: if I post on a heated topic, I will require myself to also find or start a fun one to contribute to as well. For balance.

Lawn darts, straight up? I gotta go find that conversation :-)

Wow, DT, that whole thread was cool. Thanks! I wonder if we ever passed each other back in the Spirit Lake days...we used to take our horses up there all the time, and I remember Mr. Truman just as you described.

Mrs. Merkin, that is a challenge I am willing to take. I may not succeed, but I do enjoy the company here when things are less heated and it is worth a try. Thanks for the shout out Darktemper. I miss EN and Merkin too. I am still LMAO at the idea of another toxic night in ol' Saint Louie. Do we know anybody at KMOX?

On the volcanic tangent: I wonder how many other folks remember ol' Harry? This would be a really good new thread starter with the 18th right around the corner...

Civil is good and friendly is fine.

However, I like Dennis Prager's motto:

"I prefer clarity over agreement."

Besides, if everyone has the same opinion, there's not as much to discuss.

The thing is Herb, is that we can disagree and be civil.

The hijacking of the sea lion thread over abortion is an example of what DT is trying to get rid of. (And I applaud you DT for doing so). I mean, was that really necessary? ONE person (and I admit Herb, it wasn't you) took a subject completely irrelevent and forced it down everyone's throat, antagonizing everyone on purpose.

Is that what we really want? Can't we make our own points in the context of a thread without resorting to the name-calling and trolling and baiting?

And I agree with Skybill - we all seem to turn every thread into a "F*** Dubya" rant. Look, I think he's a buffoon (Dubya, not you Skybill!) and I am as guilty as the next person ... and I promise to do my part to stop. Is it really necessary?
