...people vote for Republicans!

--->and so does Newt!

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=26376

Acceptance is gonna be very difficult to reach, but admitting there is a problem is a huge first step for the Republican party!

Let the healing begin.

Now, that list of changes is not exactly where I would go, but just making one, with the idea that some change, or a forked party will result, is a very powerful referendum on the party performance over the last two Bush terms.

I agree with Newt in that the GOP will suffer catastrophic losses this fall. Not only nationally, but on a local basis as well. I disagree with Newt on his belief that the GOP would do better by implementing those nine ideas. They are the wrong ideas and are not what Americans are concerned with. Just more right wing ideology governing policy, the same ideology that has been a proven failure.

Yeah, that's the beauty of it. For those Republicans, who are rational, they are going to see that list and feel that sinking feeling.

Newt is right on about where the problem is, and it's impact, and the solution.

He falls way short on actually suggesting real change though.

Party fork coming soon!

It’s not unusual that every so often, party rule does change, and with a vengeance. People today are rightly disgusted with the many failures of the Republican Party and its leadership. George W. Bush held himself up as a man of unparallel integrity yet has proven himself an accomplished liar, warmonger and intellectual pinhead. He’s a small minded, hapless ideologue whose ascendancy to the presidency is purely accidental. He should have never been president – and we are paying the price for his many failings.

When it comes to the Republican control of Congress from 1994 until very recently, they found more success with a Democratic president and not with a president of their own party. While Clinton was president and the Republicans controlled Congress, they were able to find common ground on matters of mutual importance, most notably fiscal policy. But when George W. Bush became president, federal spending ballooned nightmarishly out of control. This, coupled with the failed billionaire tax cuts stimulus package, has driven this country so deeply in the red that it’ll take years to find our way out. This doesn’t include the cost of the war in Iraq. On the watch of George W. Bush, nearly $650 billion dollars have been borrowed (with interest) to pay for the war. Not a dime has been spent to pay down this expense.

Another area where the Republicans have been asleep at the switch is in the regulations of various industries. George W. Bush and the Republican Congress have given industry carte blanche to act at will without regard to appropriate oversight. From food to pharmaceuticals, it’s a mess. How many more recalls of Chinese imports do we need to prove this point? None.

One of my favorite Bush tricks is his use of signing statement. This is his effort to usurp the legislative branch by ignoring congressional intent and interrupting law as he sees fit.

We shouldn’t forget the corrupt leadership of Tom DeLay, former Republican House Majority Leader. This indicted former member of congress is just another example of the culture of corruption which permeated the House of Representatives during his tenure as Majority Leader.

To me, the greatest failing is the war in Iraq. George W. Bush is simply the butcher of Crawford.

Thank God January 20, 2009 is not too far off.

Yes January can't come too soon, as Mr. McCain is tanned, rested and ready to pick up the gauntlet of protecting American lives whilst not giving in to dictators like the Iranian madman.

A vote for either democrat assures we become the next soft target for terrorism.

If the left can't even get their own primary vote count right in Michigan and Florida, how can we trust them with our country?

Hanging chads indeed.

Herb, based on your logic of being a soft target, what does it say about al qaida's attack 8 months after Bush was elected? They perceived Bush and his adminstration as a soft target and fired away.

Prattle on old man, but the GOP is gonna get hammered, just as Newt is predicting. I disagree with him politically, but he is a pretty smart man and he's speaking a truth that a lot of GOPers are in denial about.
