That settles it for me.

Rev. Wright HAS to be 150% wrong if Rosie thinks he's right.

Rev. Wright is wrong on the AIDS issue, but I can see where he's coming from when looking back on the syphilis issue. There are reasons for him to be a skeptic.

Regardless of Rev Wright, I'm 100% committed to President Obama and you better get used to calling him that.

Skybill, if someone on your side of the political spectrum said these thing like Pat Robertson, would you be so critical?

Not if Rosie endorsed him.

She is one of a few people that I can't stand to listen to.

Everytime she opens her mouth it sounds to me like 15,000 women with long fingernails dragging them on a chalk board!

I'd rather listen to Joan Rivers! (I can't believe I just said that!)

When Rosie had her TV show she did a decent job. Our kids were younger and we'd make time to watch it just so us parents could get a short break.

But since that time...well thankfully our TV watching has gone down to nearly nil.

The Reverend Wright matter seems to be the best issue on which the Republican hate machine and FOX News can pin on Senator Obama. I agree some of what the Reverend Wright has preached is highly inflammatory. But given the distrust of the conservative political elite by many in the African-American community, it shouldn’t come as much surprise.

From a political perspective, it makes sense for Senator Obama to distance himself from the Reverend Wright. In order to win the presidency, Senator Obama needs to pull in sufficient numbers of white and Latino voters in addition to his coalition of African American supporters.

What I do question is why 90 percent of the African American community votes for Democrats and against Republicans. Are they seeing something some among us are not seeing? Are their feelings about the uneasy nature of the black-white relationship justified?

But I too wonder about right wing evangelists, politicians and commentators who use race as a means to divide and reinforce feelings of fear and distrust. They too should be taken to task for making deplorable remarks about racial, ethnic or sexual minorities. But instead of repudiating these individuals, forums like FOX NEWS and hate radio broadcaster Rush Limbaugh provide them with an opportunity to spew their ignorant drivel.

"Are they seeing something some among us are not seeing?"

Well, the one thing I find runs common in conversations of this kind, is that Democrats have been a bigger enabler for civil rights, social safety net programs, diversity in culture, etc...

It's easier to find acceptance in the Democratic party, if you are a minority voter. My family is mixed race. We regularly talk to lots of different kinds of people. It's mostly the full range, from white corporate business power types, to Sammy the Scrapper looking for any metal you've got and all in-between.

A rapidly growing chunk of young people, minority or not, see Republican = pasty, corrupt white guys, bent on making every dime they can off of their backs. Also equals war, bigotry, discrimination, etc...

(thank the 23 percenters for that)

Barack Obama doing well is HUGE for the young and minority crowd. It's REAL change, not another pasty white guy talking about change. Actions speak louder than words.

Everybody knows the Republicans would NEVER have posted up somebody like Obama. That's really the party difference right there.

I hesitate to bring this in, for turning this into flamebait..

But without naming names, you have to place a lot of blame on the "Southern strategy" of the '60's.
