So, I heard a promo on KXL-AM during the news at the bottom of the hour that said the Glenn Beck program was starting Monday 05/12 due to the sports programming being discontinued.

I'm wondering if AM-1360 KUIK will be forced to discontinue Glenn Beck and what they might put in his place...

Beck at 6pm? Doesnt that make it a 12 hour old show at airing? weird choice, but it should do well, if the info isnt too outdated

It's conservative talk all day on Kxl, until the Midnight Trucking show. I don't know which way they go.

The Trucking show is conservative as well. One of it's hosts, Gary McNamara, had a local show on KXL, just prior to Larson in the late '90s.

Can’t wait, another syndicated right wing blowhard. I just wish KXL would fill the spot with a local host as opposed to right wing syndicated crap. There is nothing original about Glenn Beck or most right wing hosts. In fact they spend most of their time parroting one another.

Just curious, what do you consider a "local host?" Everyone has their own thoughts on a "local host".

-One currently living in the Portland Metro, who was born and raised in the immediate area?
-One currently living in the Portland Metro, who was raised half his/her life in PDX?
-One currently living in the Portland Metro, but raised just outside the metro?
-One currently living in the Portland Metro, but raised farther away like Seattle or Medford?
-One currently living in the Portland Metro, raised by wolves?
-What's your idea?

Not trying to just wanted a little more specifics after reading the blog and the last line.

I appreciate Glenn, as he doesn't stick to the normal east coast style. Probsably because he was raised in the State of Washington, in both Mt. Vernon and Everett, eventually headed east due to radio and TV.

-----------------------------KXL Adds Beck-----------------------------

ROSE CITY RADIO Talk KXL-A/PORTLAND picks up PREMIERE's GLENN BECK for 6-9p PT, filling the slot left open when JOHN CANZANO moves his "BALD-FACED TRUTH" sports show to new sister Sports KXJM (95.5 THE GAME).

BECK said, "Having grown up in the PACIFIC NORTHWEST, I’ve been clamoring to be heard in PORTLAND for years. KXL is a great station with a great lineup, and I’m so happy to be a part of it."

KXL PD JAMES DERBY added, "We’re thrilled to have someone of GLENN BECK's caliber on KXL! He is without question one of the best talk show hosts in AMERICA."

Give Glenn Beck a chance...you'll see that although he is a conservative, he's not beholden to a party or hung up on himself. He is his own man, and he's genuinely funny, too.

As Jimbo notes, Glenn was on 620 sometime before 2005. I caught him briefly then, and I told my wife about this guy who was interesting but seemed like he had ADD and was all over the place. Little did I know he really does have a form of ADHD. Little wonder he can keep up the schedule he does!

I forgot to mention, Beck broadcasts live from 9 am - noon Eastern time. This poses a problem for any show that is based on the east coast. Where do you slot it during the day? This is more of an issue for talk shows that are listener-driven or rely on guests and interviews that are time-sensitive, but a show that relies less on callers and more on general discussion gives a PD more flexibility.

I have liked much of what I have seen of Glen Beck's show on HN when I get a chance to see it.

I really feel for the medical issues he had earlier this year and how he handled it all. He is so right on his stance on how some in the ER industry have no sense of compassion and or concept of how pain management should be handled in this country.

Its eriely similar to my experience in the ER on March 30th of this year.

I look forward to giving his show a chance in the coming weeks on 750.

In many ways Glen Beck is a rare voice of reason on the conservative dial.

Glenn Beck was probably hammered when he fell down the stairs. After all, the guy loves the drugs and booze.

He's a perfect example of a conservative hypocrite.

Sober, able-bodied adults don't fall down the stairs. Based on his past history of drug and alcohol abuse, it's not out of question.

And Dodger, if you're going to lump a true American hero like Brett Favre into the same category of druggies as Glenn Beck, at least get your facts straight. Favre had an addiction to painkillers, not booze.

A "true American Hero"? A football player? You mean like Pat Tillman the football player err....soldier? Puhleaaassee. Yer kiddin right?
uhhh.....ya.
The facts are, he had and has a drug AND alcohol addiction, Favre that is, as well as Beck.
Why is HE the American hero and Beck is a druggie?
Where are YOUR facts?
Again, just making stupid statements as you have in these posts really need to stop. They are senseless.
BTW: define "druggie". Anyone?
What is the litmus test, considering none of you live with any of the people accused of being "druggies" and considering the entire airstaff of every station I have ever known would be considered "druggies" if Glenn Beck is one?

A druggie is somebody that consumes these things to a degree where their peers find it unacceptable.

(Yes, that varies as much as our ability to handle a buzz and be responsible does.)

Think about that definition. If you do your stuff and all is good with your peers, family, work, etc... then it's just your personal pleasure. What the stuff is, does not matter so much. It's how it ends up manifesting in your life that does.

If you and your stuff is found unacceptable, then you are well on your way to being seen as a druggie, by somebody somewhere.

Whether they, and or their label matters, is another discussion...

Brett Favre sought treatment for addiction to vicodin, not alcohol. So, I wouldn't consider him an alcoholic on the level of those that need treatment to stop drinking, like Glenn Beck.

The difference between Rush and Favre is that Favre is a nice guy who admitted to his problems. Rush Limbaugh isn't, and to this day still hasn't been truthful with the public about his addictions because he's a pompous ass.

Reading all these comments about Beck prompts me to wonder....how many local talk shows are still on the air in Portland? I'm thinking there's Lars (though his shows are really regional and national) and Victoria at KPAM and who else? Some sports talk I assume. Does Salem have local talk shows any more?KBOO? I was in Spokane recently and I didn't hear any local talk shows, likewise Eugene. Here in Seattle the number of local talk shows is down dramatically from a year ago. Just wondering..

I wasn't sure, the way it was worded. Brad mentioned Portland and a couple of stations here, then Salem, then KBOO followed by Spokane, Eugene and Seattle. Then, Broadway spoke of a show on KPDQ, which may have been in response to the first part of the previous post, a later part or not at all. It's funny how these things work sometimes.

oh brother.

Today's show was a classic example of what morning radio USED to sound like.
Glenn and crew set up three separate bits that were absolutely freaking funny and did it to perfection.
Politics aside, it is GOOD radio.

I don't need glasses to see and recognize a smug, smarmy, inflamatory & biased SOB when I see one.

Don't like or listen to AA either, but at least they don't send me screaming for the off button.

Now that Russert's gone (and until he's replaced by Gwen Ifill after the election when the appointment won't look quite so oportunistic) the only political talk I'll watch/listen to is the Stewart/Colbert hour on Comedy Central.

It's a bad bad sign for America when "fair"est political talk is on a pair of comedy shows.

He did three bits on tuesday that were well set up, thought out and delivered. AND, they weren't even political.
I really have a hard time with all of the constant bashing of anyone outside of this message board's participant's political view.
It gets really tedious.
I am Apolitical, I am an air talent and I appreciate good air talents and if one doesn't like the AT's that I like, keep it to yourself then.

Moron Trivia is one of the best bits I've heard on radio in years!

Beck is a seasoned professional broadcaster. He doesnt do anything political that hasn't already been done from the other side by Frankin or Olberman... just that he is smug in an opinion that you dont happen to share...
