Movin' 107.5 will change format, but I don't know if their will change to CHR/Rhythmic. I betting four potential formats: CHR/Pop, CHR/Rhythmic, Hot AC or Classic Rock.

I don't think they will go Hot AC because CBS Radio did it before and it don't not work. Also, some Hot AC songs are played on KINK-FM also.

I am betting more on top-40 because Z100 has not done well on the CHR/Pop station and I will give KVMX-FM an opportunity to compete against Z100. Most CHR/Pop stations in CBS' family are more mainstream. I think Z100 will go CHR/Rhythmic!

I can't think of time that CBS had a Hot AC in this market. CHR/Pop is only an option for KVMX if Z100 switches to CHR/Rhythmic. I don't see the point of competing Hot ACs or Classic Rocks. CHR/Rhythmic is most likely since there is now a HOLE for it. The other possibility is Mainstream AC like Fresh.

You're right about mainstream AC, but CBS tried Lite 106.7 and that don't work. Fresh is a little different from Lite because it is targeting a younger female demo, but I have not heard any success from that format yet.

Also, CBS briefly owned 107.5 the Beat after they brought most of the American Radio System stations. It was a modern/hot AC format until 2000 when they switched to 80s. The 80s format that Mix 107.5 had in their early days could be consider Hot AC 80s.

The past is always safer than the present or future. This is why radio stations today focus so heavily on "gold" instead of new music. :-( A long time ago, somebody posted a running tally on the amount of "gold" vs. new music played on various radio stations. The numbers were pretty high, even for "contemporary" formatted stations.

By the way, I think a valid question might be, will the next format change be a high profile change performed for strategic reasons, or will it quietly happen on an obscure signal (like 1230 or 1480)? I certainly couldn't have predicted that 1150 would go Spanish Christian.

I predict that Entercom will flip 105.1 to try to fill in the gap left by the signing off of Jammin' 95.5. I have no facts or data whatsoever to back up this prediction. It just sounds a bit less sacrilegious than saying "Entercom will flip 94.7..."

...OK I'm feeling a bit undecided here. I have been listening to 1010 KOOR, and I have not heard a single commercial play. Bustos has got to be operating this station at a loss. I think that likely, 1010 will change formats before anybody else. To what, I don't know.

What I don't understand is why someone wouldn't take the opportunity with the leak of the new Game station to flip formats a bit premature to garner audience share in the end?

For instance, if 107.5 or 105.1 or 94.7 were to make the jump to CHR/Rhythmic, why not watch this board as well as OMI and flip something early this week rather than after Jammin completely leaves the market? Everyone knows there is another station in town that way and can move towards that dial at 9:01am Monday. By waiting, you have to spend more dollars IMO to say to everyone who left radio to go to their Ipod's that another CHR/Rhythmic format is on the air. You lose any word of mouth power you had by flipping early.

Do the PD's in Portland have their heads so far up their asses that they don't realize the opportunity when it's handed to them? Guess so...

620 NEEDS TO CHANGE... 910 NEEDS TO SWITCH...
In my personal opinion, I'd like the original 90s Alt-Rock version of "The Beat" to return that ran on 970 in the 90s. However, I have enough coffee mugs.

Let's face it, none of us have any way of correctly predicting what the next station to switch to anything will be. If anyone believed the predictions that dominated this board over the years:
94.7 would be smooth jazz.
105.1 would be KNRK.
A licensed station would've picked up a CHR/Dance format.

What I don't understand is why someone wouldn't take the opportunity with the leak of the new Game station to flip formats a bit premature to garner audience share in the end?
Actually, what I'm concerned about is the rumor that the reason Entercom dumped 97.1 Kissin'-FM in favor of Charlie was because another station was considering flipping to an official "Jack-FM." Would we wake up tomorrow or some other day this week and find that one of Entercom's FMs is now the new home of "The Fan" and another heritage Portland FM is lost forever?

I have a feeling Movin will flip to a Chr/pop and go head to head with Z100! Now would be a smart time to do it, since Z100 sounds weak.
Z100 amazes me at how irrelevant they have made that station.
"More music in The mornings" ???? WTF? That is laughable. The programming on that station sounds like a HOT AC station, not a top 40 station. That station has always prided themselves with having a great morning show with incredible air talent and now they have "more music in the mornings???" What a joke! That won't last much longer!

Uhh... that reminds me of another station that had several formats with so-so morning shows...

Star 105.9 - ran Jamie and Danny - then pulled it with announcements that "Music is back in the morning" and "we're sorry" they had a talk-based morning show. Format only lasted a few more months.

105.9 The River - Launched with all-music; then added Bob and Tom mornings, what seemed like every morning (including weekends, but I'm not 100% sure about Sundays). They eventually pulled it and went back to all music, and, once again, the format only lasted a few months longer.

I dunno, I almost want to pull for Z100 at this point - there's nowhere for them to go but up - and even though I don't personally like 3/4 of the music on the station, kinda like the way someone would actually root for the L.A. Clippers. Even they know what the results will probably be, but they want to say they honestly wanted to see them try.

More music in the morning on Z100? You cant be serious. That is the most idiotic programing decision I have ever heard, especially on a Top 40 station.

Here is an idea, quit being so cheap, and hire some Real talent and put together a morning show that is actually listenable. You may atually get some ratings!

It will be interesting to see if by doing nothing, Z100 ends up with a 5 share.

I don't think 105.1 will be flipping...

107.5 should get moving on CHR/Rhythmic!

LOL! Z100 doesn't have the budget! They are way too cheap to bring the playhouse to Z100! Come on PDXman, we know you are smarter than that!

Bunsofsteel sez, in regard to Z100~

"Here is an idea, quit being so cheap, and hire some Real talent and put together a morning show that is actually listenable. You may atually get some ratings!"

.....but if they do that, it wouldn't be Cheap Channel then, and we wouldn't have anything to ridicule! ;o)
